What customers say

This adults-only campsite boasts spacious, tranquil sites by Colemere lake, with direct access to woods and canal paths. Reviewers rave about the friendly, helpful owners and super-clean facilities, including a great communal lounge. Watch out for narrow access roads and some uneven sites, but expect a fantastic stay with many planning to return.

Powered grass campervan campsite

Liked The site has really spacious pitches, lots of planting with nature and wildlife round every corner. Ingrid and Dave were extremely welcoming hosts. You are located adjacent to a mere which offers very pleasant walks. You are also very close to the canal, which leads into Ellesmere in around a 45 minute walk which was great. The site has a hot tub which is a great addition unfortunately we didnt get chance to use (maybe next time). Facilities were really clean and tidy and the campsite as a whole was really well kept. We were fortunate to get a couple of really clear nights, that coupled with no light pollution meant a vast amount of stars were visible, which was just another great element to the site. It was just what we were looking for. The site was so good, we decided to stay for an extra night!

Disliked nothing will be back!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We upgraded to the yurt due to the high winds forecast. It was decorated beautifully with a good heater, teeny fridge, a rail for clothes and a table with crockery and cutlery, plus a kettle, tea and coffee. It was very cosy and had a table and chairs outside too.
Dave dropped off a generous amount of wood for the firepit at 7 every evening (£15/night).
Really liked the big shared kitchen area- which has two fridges and a little freezer plus a microwave and another kettle. Really lovely space.
Lovely walk to Ellesmere (we recommend the Magic Lantern cinema bar!!)
Ingrid and Dave could not do enough and were extremely responsive and helpful.

Local attractions

There's stacks to do in the surrounding area, whether you want to stick close to home by foot or pedal, or drive a bit further afield to the towns, tourist attractions and landscapes of Shropshire, Cheshire and north-east Wales – the city of Chester is 40 minutes away and Llangollen on the River Dee reachable within an hour. On the doorstep, tackle the two-mile walk along the canal towpath to Ellesmere or make your way via the purpose-built circular walk and through a wooded area of rhododendrons around the mere and nature reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest with species galore to see like otters, lapwings and water birds. The reserve also has several deep fishing pools well-stocked with catfish and big carp; more fishing – and carp – can be had nearby at Blackmere along the towpath from Colmere. Also nearby, wander into Colemere village to see the fifteenth-century thatched cottages, listed in the Domesday Book, to Ellesmere for food festivals, regattas and boat rides on the mere, or drive to Rednal Karting, Paintballing and Laser for an exciting time ten minutes away. Castles including Chirk and Whittington are a doddle to drive to too. If being on the water is your thing, a narrowboat marina is a three-minute drive away from the caravan park and both Colemere and Whitemere sailing clubs are within easy reach. By car, the standard of whitewater rafting at Bala Adventure and Watersports will have you foaming at the mouth – a milder form of the sport, along with abseiling, gorge walking, a steam railway and horse-drawn boat trips is available over the border in Wales at Llangollen.
