Morning view from the pod

  • Peaceful rural site with views over the Shropshire Hills
  • A 10-minute drive from Church Stretton and the Long Mynd
  • A mile from a country pub for drinks and food
What gorgeous views there are from South View Pods, looking out over the Shropshire Hills (no surprise to find this area has been designated a National Landscape). That’d be a fine backdrop to an evening sizzling sausages on the barbie while the sun sets, yes…? And the surrounds would also be a fab place to get out for a few strolls or cycle rides – long ones on the Long Mynd or shorter ones to the pub are both perfectly possible (it’s a mere mile to the nearest country inn). Countryside may be all around, but urban amenities aren’t far away either: Church Stretton is 10 minutes’ drive away. Pack a mattress and bedding for your pod stay and you’ll hopefully be in for a peaceful night’s slumber – your cosy wooden hut is kitted out with a kingsize double bed frame to kip on, and has lighting, electrical sockets and heating (no scrabbling around in the cold and dark here, you’ll be chuffed to hear). The rear and front windows have blinds to block out early morning sun: lie-ins almost essential… Toilets and showers are a short scamper away in a modern toilet block, and you’ll also have access to drinking water and a washing-up area.

What customers say

Guests rave about the tranquil rural setting and spotless pods/facilities. Owners are consistently praised as friendly and helpful. Bring bedding and expect a shower fee. Minor issues: pod keys, parking obstructing views. Highly recommended for a quiet, clean getaway.

Camping pod

Liked Great small site on a quiet road with lovely views. The pod is cosy and has three electrical sockets, a light and a heater. Decent, clean facilities.

Disliked I was the only person camping so the fact that there was only one women's and one men's toilet/shower room wasn't a problem, but it might lead to lengthy waits when the site is full. It's a shame that the pod only has a patterned 'private' glass window in its door; it would be nice to look out at the view even if it's a bit too cold to be outside.

Camping pod

Liked Peaceful location, very clean toilets.

Disliked I should have taken a thicker mattress [2 inch thicker] for a better night's sleep on the slatted pine bed frame in camping pod.

Camping pod

Liked We loved our two night stay at South View Pods. We had initially planned a camping trip but a quick look at the wet weather report quickly changed our plans!! The pod was exactly what we needed - no fuss but warm and cosy! The facilities here are excellent - kept warm and clean throughout our stay. The site is small so was very quiet which we loved! Will definitely be returning.

Camping pod

Liked I had a great stay at the camping pods. The details were exactly as described on the website. The pod has a heater and was preheated when we arrived, which was a lovely touch. There were extra plug points available for charging devices or connecting any electric appliances. The pod also had lights and ventilation, so everything met my expectations. Although there is a small charge for the shower, the toilets were very clean, and the camping pod itself was well organised and well maintained. It’s a perfect spot for anyone who enjoys a clean, peaceful environment. Highly recommended!

Disliked Nothing.

Camping pod

Liked Owner honoured our booking for a week later as we all came down with a virus which was very kind:) the site is very quiet which totally suited us as we were looking for a quiet escape from noisy Merseyside. Pod and site very accessible no probs very clean and warm. Good security.

Disliked Not much really. Could do with more lighting around the gate. There was only one other van/car on site that we saw but slight jam on the showers/toilets when we were trying to leave with only two showers/loos someone near wrenched the handle off in desperation trying to get in. Didn't like the fact the old woman with the van emptied her van toilet cassette in the ladies toilets instead of the elsan point not the owners fault at all but maybe another sign to stop seniors doing this it's rank!

Camping pod

Liked My 7 year old son and I had a fantastic 4 nights in the Pod. Would have happily stayed longer.

It was chilly late October, but we were very cozy and comfortable at night as an electric radiator was provided. It was also great to have a light. We had just enough space to use our 2 burner stove indoors.

The bathroom was always immaculately clean and the shower was powerful. The water for washing up was helpfully hot.

You are permitted to use a BBQ so we brought along our mini travel BBQ to roast marshmelllows outside.

Kath and Ben were both very helpful and responded really quickly to questions via text.

A great location from which to explore the beautiful Shropshire Hills.

Disliked Nothing!

Roll mats were kindly provided, but make sure you bring inflatable matresses to go over those. I use small self-inflating matresses; those plus the roll mats and some blankets underneath our sleeping bags and we were very comfortable.

Local attractions

This is a fab area to get out for some fresh air – bring your boots or your bike to get out and explore the surrounding Shropshire Hills or head to the heathland of Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd, around 10 minutes away by car. Step back in time by driving the five minutes to Acton Scott Historic Working Farm for a taste of rural life in the olden days, complete with dressing up and lots of friendly animals to meet. Or look at life even further back with a trip to medieval Stokesay Castle, 20 minutes away, or Wroxeter Roman City (25 minutes). If Victorian’s more your era, head to the World Heritage Site half an hour away at Ironbridge – there are 10 museums over here where you can pick up all sorts of scientific and historic snippets to ponder as you munch on traditional treats from the sweetie shop.
