  • CAMC members-only pitches a mile from the centre of Church Stretton
  • Ludlow and Shrewsbury half an hour away by train
  • Carp fishing lake on site; lovely views to Caer Caradoc
Fancy waking up to views of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, then strolling just a couple of minutes to a nearby fishing lake? Members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club (CAMC) can do just that when they stay at New House Farm Certificated Location, just outside the market town of Church Stretton. Pitches here have lovely views of Caer Caradoc; it’s also pretty easy to get out for a hike on this 459-metre hill, since it’s less than half an hour away on foot. When you stay here, you can also schedule plenty of other Shropshire Hills walks or bike rides, including routes around popular spots like the Stiperstones and Carding Mill Valley. And that fishing? Well, that’s at the large lake on site, which is stocked with carp and open to all guests with the relevant licence. For those who aren’t into fishing, the lake provides an attractive backdrop for picnics, dog walks or just hours of waterside daydreaming… Being just on the edge of Church Stretton makes New House Farm a convenient place to be: the centre of town (for shops, pubs and cafés) is about a mile away, and there’s a railway station for outings to places like Ludlow and Shrewsbury (both about half an hour away). Entirely dedicated to touring guests, the site has got lots of handy features, including a wide turning from the road, large hardstanding and grass pitches, portable toilets, showers, and electric and mains water hookups. Kids are welcome, and there are a couple of large parks a few minutes’ walk away where they can have a good run around.

Liked Loved the location, great walks in the surrounding area. It’s an easy walk to the local shops and pubs too.

Disliked The fishing man come early in the morning, making a noise driving up and down where the camping pitch were and using the as a turning point, even though people are camped staying in them.

Liked Great pitches, electric and water at pitch.
Beautiful views looking over fishing lake to the hills. Sooooooo relaxing.
1 mile walk across field into the local town with plenty of pubs, eateries and shops.

Disliked Usable private shower/toilet (just one)

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (members only)

Liked Spacious pitches with a lovely view of the lake, greta walks across the fields into the town and countryside. Water and EHU on each pitch. Owner visited to check everything was ok, and was very friendly and welcoming. Only one toilet and shower cubicle which is a away from the pitches but it was clean and hot water was plenty. Will definitely be back.

Disliked Nothing we particular we disliked. Suggested improvement would be to Eslan point and perhaps shower but the are adequate for the cost.

Fantastic walks in every direction.
Nice and quiet site. The few anglers also using the site weren't an issue for us, they were very quiet and discreet.

Disliked Very basic but functional facilities.

Local attractions

At National Trust – Carding Mill Valley on the Long Mynd (10 minutes’ drive), you can hike on heather-covered hills, taking in splendid, far-reaching views of the Shropshire Hills. If you’re up for a moderately challenging walk, make a beeline for the Lightspout Waterfall, where you might catch a glimpse of red kites hovering in the skies above you. Dominated by a medieval castle that now hosts seasonal events (such as summer concerts), Ludlow (half an hour) has a lively market scene, with regular food and crafts stalls most days, plus occasional days dedicated to local producers or antiques. Grab a quiche or some cheese and cold cuts, and head to Linney Riverside Park for a waterfront picnic. Covered in heather and gorse, the dramatic jagged landscape of Stiperstones National Nature Reserve (35 minutes), near the Welsh border, is home to assorted wildlife – from lizards and frogs to birds of prey and butterflies.
