Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Stayed here for one night with a friend during a cycling trip (King Alfred Way). Only two other pitches were taken, probably because of the poor weather. Good size pitches, showers and toilets were very clean, friendly staff and excellent communication. Staff recommended The Woodman Inn in Fernham for food. Great pub for a lunch or dinner.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Oxford Oak Camping is a gem of a campsite with clean showers and toilets and friendly and helpful staff. The pitches are flat and clean with a lot of space between each pitch. There are communal fire pits or you can bring your own and dogs on leads are welcome. We would definitely come here again as it is a reasonable price too with beautiful countryside and The Ridgeway not too far for lovely walks with Neolithic interest! All in all a great place to visit!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Nice little site , showers are nice and hot and powerful , good fire pits. Walking distance to the woodman's arms pub that serves very good pub food , catch the 63 bus from longcot to faringdon for a bit of shopping , this site is ideal for young family's due to the petting farm next door

Disliked: Farm shop has a limited range of produce , if you look at the website you would think a large selection of meats and products were forsale but this is very much seasonal and when we visited it was eggs or sausages , lack of footpaths so walking on roads but the traffic is not to bad , would be a good base to explore the local area but not in a camper

Local attractions

This is some splendid countryside, so come along prepped for walks or bike rides, either in the immediate surroundings or a little further afield in the North Wessex Downs (10 minutes’ drive) and Cotswolds (half an hour) Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you’re not sure where to start, the Uffington White Horse (10 minutes) and the area around Burford (half an hour) are good bets. You may spot some native wildlife as you roam, but for something more exotic you’ll need to head to the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Garden (half an hour) or to meet the snappy residents of Crocodiles of the World (25 minutes). It’s certainly not safe to get in the water there, but it is at Cotswold Water Park (35 minutes), which has a whole host of watersports as well as a beach area and fishing. For a bit of history and culture, you can’t beat a day out in Oxford (half an hour), punting along the river, touring the college quads and visiting the Ashmolean Museum. There are lots of scenic villages and towns to see up in the Cotswolds too – places like Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold (both 50 minutes) may be some of the prettiest places to see in the whole land.
