Gilt primitive grass travel trailer campsite (four person)
Liked: Scenery across campsite beside the canal
Disliked: Misleading website regarding campfires. Sell logs on campsite and say online you can have a campfire. Was told we cannot have a campfire and if we wanted one we would have to go to the communal area. Although no difference as still on grass field and the miles away from your tent so not the same. very squashed in campsite on top of each other also no privacy as very open area. Came here to see all the pigs as seen online many photos with loads of pigs, however only had 3 pigs in the padlock. After all these points mentioned we will not be returning. Is a shame as when we saw it online it sounded amazing. But in reality everyone is bunched together and considering it’s called the pig place we expected to see more pigs. Website/ pitchup needs to be updated with the campfire situation to prevent this happening to others. Campfires are a big part of camping and we couldn’t have one. Our fire pit was off the floor so no grass was damaged so wasn’t like we were destroying the landscape but was told needed to be distinguished straight away

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and I'm glad of the opportunity to respond as you detail several inaccuracies. I remember your visit quite distinctly as you arrived at 9.30am for a Noon check in! Once the check-in staff had arrived you were directed one of our camping areas. You decided that you did not wish to be there and proceeded to drive the wrong way round our 'one-way' system to go where you wanted to be. This was a very exposed area - but that was your choice! Your position made it very obvious when you broke one of our major site rules - that is that we cannot permit camp fires in the camping fields. This was confirmed to you upon arrival and the reasons explained. Most fire pits destroy the grass, even ones with legs but does not show until a couple of days later. We sacrifice grass in certain areas by the canal and install sofas and fire pits for people to use free of charge. We do not permit the sofas or firepits to be moved so that only certain patches are damaged. If we allowed everyone to have firepits in the camping fields considerably more patches would be damaged thereby spoiling future camping experiences for other people. Unfortunately you were not concerned about other people and went ahead with what you wanted to do. Once this was discovered you were, quite rightly, instructed to put out the fire. And yes, two days after you left you can see where you had lit it! We also removed all the rubbish you had deposited in the grass. We could see that you enjoyed the live music on Saturday night but if you ever go into a licensed establishment again that is paying artists to perform for your entertainment please have the courtesy to support them by purchasing from the bar rather than smuggling in your own drinks in your pockets!! Pigs - you are quite right there were very few pigs on site during your stay. This is because it has rained for the last 6 months and having pigs on waterlogged ground for such a long period of time would be a welfare issue. We care about our livestock, they are not there for entertainment. Your visit was during the time that we had started to slowly re-introduce pigs to the land and have done so a few at a time to see how they were affected by the conditions.

Liked: We loved the location, right next to the canal and the beautiful pigs. The bar, shop and cafe were exceptional. It also welcomes motorcycles, which is always a bonus for two-wheeled travellers.

Boar powered grass travel trailer campsite (six person)
Liked: The canal!
Disliked: Unfortunately this was the most over priced, horrible campsite I've visited. Squashed in to a small, lop-sided field alongside some poor pigs (who the owner proudly informed me, ended up in the shop fridge...). Although we had paid over the odds for this site we were told there was no showers, only one tap, a couple of porter cabins and no electric sockets, because they were all used up! We left before we got trapped, loosing our payment but feeling free from the possibility of ending up like just another pig in a pen...!!

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your very brief visit to our campsite. Upon receipt of your review I carried out an investigation into your experience and was told that the main problem upon your arrival was the discovery that there were no showers on site which greatly upset a member of your party. The fact that we do not have showers on site is clearly shown in the description of the site on PitchUp and mentioned several times in the reviews, our listing also states that we are not on mains water but have a borehole for drinking water and seven portable toilets. I particularly object to the "some poor pigs" comment when we clearly state that we are a working smallholding and our pigs are kept in the highest welfare standards. There was an electric hook up available for you, so stating there was not is complete fabrication. I believe that your disparaging review is a result of being told that a refund would not be issued for your stay over a bank holiday weekend just because you have not read the site description in full.
Read carefully site rules as advised

Liked: Friendly owners, good size pitches
Disliked: Constant road noise. Website says campfires allowed however barely allowed us to have a BBQ by our pitch. Camping without a fire is not camping. Bar and shop overpriced. Original booking got cancelled and got moved, wanted to add another day got charged double
