Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Pretty lake side site with bats, water birds and long tail tits. Warm clean individual cubicles with showers and toilets together- more like own bathroom than campsite. Lovely child’s play ground. Lots of space and level pitches .

Disliked: Traffic noise from A52

Lovely. Only thing that is missing is a chemical toilet point.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Friendly and super helpful, rearranged at short notice for us due to illness. Very clean and tidy site, freedom to pitch up anywhere. Beautiful lake, nice pubs in vicinity for dinner, loved it!

Disliked: Slight road noise from A52, but expected.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Very reasonably priced. Lovely field next to lake, lots of birds. Facilities clean and I liked the use of microwave, fridge and freezer. Friendly owner and lush grass to pitch on.

Disliked: Close to A52 but this was fine once for closed. Nowhere obvious to walk close by.poor mobile reception and no WiFi.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Wonderful clean field and pitches. Tidy and spacious site. Excellent facilities - best showers ever experienced on a camp site! Small but tidy cleaning/washing up facilities. Fridge, freezer and microwave for all to share and access. Intimate and exclusive feel as limited pitches. Will definitely book again - not only for next years Outlaw event (12 miles away & easily accessible) but for mini breaks this year. A little gem hidden away.

Disliked: Traffic occasionally noisy but didn’t really impact the stay.

Local attractions

Elton Barn Fishery and Retreat is a well-connected spot indeed – the site is just off the A52, so jaunts to Newark (20 minutes' drive) or Nottingham (25 minutes) are a real doddle. Days out to the cathedral city of Lincoln (40 minutes) are also fully feasible. Dipped your toe in aquatic adventure and eager for more? Whatever it is you fancy, the National Water Sports Centre (20 minutes) will probably have it covered – whitewater rafting, kayaking and something called lagoon wipeout can all be tried out here. Head to Holme Pierrepont Country Park next door for land-based action including segways, miniature golf, high ropes and a climbing wall. More sedate but equally special open-air times are to be had at Nottingham's Wollaton Park (30 minutes), where you can join the deer that wander the grounds of this former country estate. Right, that's water and land covered – now for the skies. Elton Barn Fishery and Retreat is half an hour from the National Space Centre, home to spacesuits, full-sized rockets and 360-degree planetarium shows. Newark Air Museum (20 minutes) has upwards of 70 impressive aircraft on display (aspiring captains also have the chance to sit in the cockpit).
