Can’t decide between a countryside getaway and the lively buzz of the city? Good news: there’s no need to pick just one at Nottingham Camping and Caravanning Club Site, a tree-lined location six miles from the centre of Nottingham – a journey that only takes about 20 minutes by bus or car. The site is managed by the Camping and Caravanning Club, with members and non-members both welcome; however, there’s a reduced rate for members, so just make sure you select the correct membership status when booking. Modern facilities are the standard here, with guests having access to wifi, a laundry room and a chemical disposal point as well as clean bathrooms (with family and accessible areas). The site also has a café and food shop to keep you fed, and a play area to keep the kids busy. The main perk, though, is the park's fantastic location on the outskirts of Nottingham. It's exceptionally easy to get to, with major roads such as the A52 and A46 nearby and excellent bus connections as well for your trips into Nottingham (whether you're going shopping, watching a sporting event or visiting the castle and one of England’s oldest surviving inns). Outside of the city, you could go for green strolls (with your binoculars in hand) at Cotgrave Country Park, a five-minute drive away, or browse the many castles that still stand strong in the area. There are plenty of family attractions around too, including the Twinlakes Outdoor Waterpark, 25 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

You’ll be well placed here for jaunts to Nottingham – it’s about 20/25 minutes’ drive to the city centre, or you can skip any traffic and parking issues by boarding a bus from just outside the campsite. Once you’re there, top sights include the castle, the National Justice Museum and the City of Caves – did you know there are more than 1000 caves hidden under the city’s streets? If one castle is not enough, there are a couple more to add to your list nearby – Newark Castle has dungeons and Victorian Gardens, while grand Belvoir Castle is home to an animal park and vineyards (both are 20 minutes’ drive). The gorgeous Elizabethan Wollaton Hall (25 minutes) is another place that’s worth a visit. Prefer a bit of outdoor activity? Head to Cotgrave Country Park (five minutes), for walking and cycling trails among woodland, wetlands and lakes, or spend the day at Twinlakes Park (25 minutes), which has an outdoor waterpark and a mini zoo among its rides and themed areas.
