  • Adults-only site behind a traditional pub in Nottinghamshire
  • Lincoln 20 minutes’ drive; Sherwood Forest half an hour
  • Playground in the pub garden and a fishing lake, plus riverside walks
If you’re keen to stay in the open air but don’t want to miss out on a nightly pint in a cosy local, Swan Lake Caravan Park might just be the place for you. The grass pitches at this adults-only site sit behind the White Swan pub, a traditional boozer in the Nottinghamshire village of Dunham on Trent. There are other advantages to staying here besides the proximity to the pub: the site is just off the A57 (and therefore easy to reach), plus there are bus stops nearby, and it will welcome your canine buddy. On top of that, it has its own fishing lake. Ready to explore the Nottinghamshire countryside? A 10-minute walk takes you to the Dunham Toll Bridge and the path that runs along the River Trent. Then you can walk (or cycle) south towards Fledborough Viaduct and on to Girton Lakes (a five-mile hike); or head north, towards Torksey Castle (about four miles). If you’re feeling adventurous, the Skellingthorpe Walk is a 10-mile path leading all the way into Lincoln (allow at least four hours on foot… or 20 minutes by car). The site has modern toilet and shower facilities, freshwater points and chemical waste disposal, plus an area where you can wash up after your barbecue.

Liked: Lovely quiet site. Grounds well kept and washroom facilities were very clean. Nice to have an actual electric shower within a cubicle. Only one shower in each toilet block but not an issue, as the site was quiet. Coded barrier entrance with free exit. The White Swan pub was perfect. Great food and beer with reasonable prices and friendly staff.

Liked: This is our second time to the beautiful quiet site. It’s so peaceful big spacious pitches. All the facilities are clean and tidy. With thanks to Ralph the warden, for making it such a wonderful stay. He remembered us from our first stay and gave us a warm welcome back. He goes the extra mile and is so warm, welcoming and friendly.. nothing is a problem or too much trouble. We didn’t want to come away, and will be returning again soon.

Liked: Liked:
The warm welcome & great info about the surrounding area from Ralph.
The cleanliness of the facilities.
The adjoining pub including that it's located near enough to walk (stagger) back to the caravan but not too close that any accompanying noise is a bother.
The pitched are well spaced and created so you can interact with other caravanners.
Loved:
The peace & quiet.
Our dog loved the field next to the pub, plenty of bushes to sniff at & big enough to run around in.

Disliked: This is not meant as a criticism, just to advise future guests.
The path/roadways are made of 'rock chunks' which can make it difficult for a mobility scooter or walking stick.

The Internet service is practically nil.

Re. The pub - the website really needs updating - menu prices and opening times are out of date so, misleading.

Local attractions

The attractions at Sundown Adventureland (five minutes’ drive) were built with younger visitors (under the age of 10) in mind – kids can ride a tractor or meet the characters from The Wizard of Oz on the Yellow Brick Road snaking through the forest. They'll also believe pigs can fly on the Giddy Piggies ride. Explore 3,000+ acres of parkland at National Trust - Clumber Park (25 minutes), a former ducal estate that now welcomes visitors – whether on foot or bike. Check out the Gothic chapel, pause for a picnic by the lake or in the Pleasure Grounds, or sniff out the Rose Garden, with its dozens of varieties. When in Nottinghamshire, of course you have to pay a visit to Sherwood Forest (half an hour), said to have been home to Robin Hood and his merry men. There are historical reenactments celebrating this folklore hero, or you can simply explore wooded trails, looking out for birds like woodpeckers and pipits.
