Scenic fishing lake
Tent
Plenty of space for tents -we also have rough camping fields if you want to get away from everyone
Well cut grass and maintained surrounds

  • 70-acre estate including fields and woodlands
  • Six-acre fishing lake on site with rudd, roach and tench
  • Great base for exploring the Lincolnshire countryside
No word of a lie: you might land a whopper of a carp at Oakhill Leisure between Lincoln and Newark-on-Trent. For monsters of up to 35lb have been angled for at the site's six-acre fishing lake, as well as sizeable specimens of rudd, roach and tench. If you're not fishing or if you feel like doing a victory lap after landing a massive carp, plenty is on hand to explore, as Oakhill is on a site made up of the 10-acre campsite, walking and playing fields covering 30 acres, and finally about 20 acres of woodland. Take the 20 to 30-minute circular walk around the lake and through the woodland; it and the site grounds are pretty handsome… The accommodation part of Oakhill is on flat and well-drained grassland, bordered by trees on three sides and a hedge. Toilets, showers and a washroom are in the facilities building and a play area is also on site. But back to the fishing… You'll need a fishing licence (available at the post office) to fish at Oakhill Leisure, as well as your own equipment and bait; a small charge applies to angle on site, and you'll need to call the office in advance to book your peg. Please note that under-16s must be accompanied by an adult and that they aren't allowed to stay around the lake overnight.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Fabulous site! Flat, level, spacious pitches (plenty of room for our caravan, awning and car).

Fantastic, thoroughly modern shower/laundry/toilet facilities...immaculate at all times, day and night.

The welcome upon arrival was warm and friendly along with all subsequent encounters with the owner/staff?

All in all, we cannot fault our stay in any way at all! We visit Lincoln frequently for family reasons, so we will most definitely be back. 👍😊

Powered grass tent campsite (three person)

Liked Heated toilet and shower blocks which were immaculate.
The staff were just brilliant, they even put on a Red Arrow display for us!🤣

Disliked While we appreciated how well kept the pitches were, the grass cutting did go on for quite a while. Only a mild niggle though.

From the manager: Thank you for a lovely review. We apologise for the grass cutting. Although this is something we can't avoid, you had myself cutting and I am still a little slower than the pros.. Hopefully we will see you back again. :)

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Just on arrival the way you are greeted and the look of the place, you know its going to be good.
When we arrived we were told we could choose our pitch, we chose number 7 which was opposite the toilet block. There are many seasonal pitches but every pitch is well spaced apart and the toilet block and general facilities are 5*. Even the kids mentioned that they have not seen such good looking and clean showers/toilets and there's even a powder room for the ones that need to glam up.
There's a good play area and football goal posts, boys were happy!
This is a HIDDEN GEM !!! will certainly be back.

Disliked There's nothing to dislike to be honest.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Really warm smiley welcome from Jodie on arrival. Huge back field with lots of space to pitch and level too. The loos/showers were clean and warm. The dressing tables were a great idea with a proper hairdryer! Good washing up area undercover too. Great that it was number plate recognition so no trying to remember PIN codes to get in and out.
We didn’t have the grandkids with us but there was an Easter egg hunt for the kiddies which looked great fun.
Nice walks on site and offsite too.
Firepits and bbqs allowed.

Primitive grass tent campsite (four person)

Liked Great pitches. Immaculate shower and toilet facilities.
Can’t speak highly enough. Lady on reception, credit to the place. Did an Easter egg hunt for all kids on site on Easter Sunday with a more than needed sized egg for everyone as a prize. A great walk with faces hidden on the trees, helps keep the kids busy on an afternoon walk. We spent a while deciding where to stay and so happy we picked here. Best facilities we have seen, showers and toilets superb. For a quiet weekend away this is the perfect place. We will be back for sure.

Local attractions

Food, glorious food… bring the bike and cycle to the nearby villages of Norton Disney, Bassingham and Auborn for drinks and home-cooked Lincolnshire food in friendly well-run pubs. Evening meals recommended by the team are at the Green Man pub a mile and a half away. Visit nearby Newark for its castle, National Civil War Centre and Newark Museum and central square with a market all day on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Food and drink are recommended here too at Oakhill Leisure's fave coffee shop Strays in Middle Gate. The site is handy for lovely Lincoln, where you can have a look at the castle, the Medieval Bishop's Palace and the grand old cathedral: the views (and the walk to it up Steep Hill) are just a bit fabulous…
