  • Peaceful park with spectacular views
  • Less than half an hour's drive from Lincoln
  • Fresh eggs for sale from resident hens
Bells, whistles and noisy nightclubbing are not what you'll find on the menu at Larkrise Holiday Campsite in Lincolnshire. But you'll be able to sample first-rate vistas, wide open space, peace, quiet and pitches on a huge grass field – and the freshest of eggs for sale from resident hens. It's enough to make one get up very early. Larkrise is in an agreeably rurally location but only about a 25-minute drive from Lincoln, a mile from the pubs and food shops of the local village and also a mile from the butcher, café and produce of the award-winning Uncle Henry's Farm Shop (we'd bet a year's worth of Lincolnshire sausages that littlies will love the tractor and tyre swings at this last). As well as the huge pitching field, Larkrise comes with showers and loos, chemical loos, fresh water, chemical disposal, optional electric and picnic tables.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The nice welcome by John and his lovely wife. Fantastic people. It's very peaceful and plenty of space and nearby to plenty of things. Huge pitch sizes and easy access to electric and water.

Disliked: The padlock on the gate which you have to unlock and lock to get in and out. Becomes annoying after a while. The lack of signage as to what to do when you arrive - there's no reception. Wasn't even sure I arrived at the right place. No washing up facilities. No hot tap in the bathrooms. 2 large pile of road chippings on the site however the kids were consistently being discouraged by the staff for playing on it them. Lack of facilities for the kids to do which is reflected in the price.

From the manager: We are pleased you and the children enjoyed the space. Most people welcome the security of a lock with a code on the gates and tell us how nice it is to feel secure. The site is no frills and family run so campers are met personally. The kids are able to run around in a a big field . It is not a site with amusements .like large sites on the coast. However the children were able to borrow toys like plastic dumper trucks. It is a shame that after the bank holiday some of these toys were found broken and a football missing, for whatever reason. There were some heaps of chippings away from the pitches near the gate. Children were being asked not to throw stones and if they did to come away from there.

Liked: Just what we wanted. A small quiet site allowing a dog, with electric hook up, loo and shower. A field on a farm. The gate was locked on a night but we were given the code. Quite near to a road but no major noise. The people running the site were friendly but left you alone to enjoy the peace. Local coop shop a short drive away for essentials. Scunthorpe Town about 20 minutes drive away. The elsan was clean and easy to use. 2 x loos and 1 shower per male /female block. Field was level. Plenty of room per pitch.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Liked: Very helpful, lovely Stacey allowed us to change our day at the last minute, as it was the first time we had put our tent up and didn't want to do it in the rain. She even allowed us a free drink on her because we'd paid for electric and didn't need to use it. Thank you 😁

Local attractions

To Lincoln first, we think, for castle, cathedral, Medieval Bishop's Palace and the two million or so objects of The Collection which now includes the Usher Gallery. Whisby Nature Reserve and Hartsholme Country Park, RAF Waddington, RAF Scampton and Cadwell Park motor racing circuit are all just outside Lincoln, while more speedy days out are at Gainsborough's Blyton Circuit and the hair-raising skydiving of Hibaldstow Airfield. Hang gliding is nearby at Trent Valley Gliding Club. History and heritage hunters in the region have quite a bit more to pick from, from the fifteenth century timber-framed stronghouse of Gainsborough Old Hall to grander piles in the region like Elsham Hall and Normanby Hall. The four-sailed Mount Pleasant Mill at Kirton-in-Lindsey is a pleasant sight for photos; afterwards, take one of the Kirton-in-Lindsey walks north or south from the market place. A garden centre for another wander is at Kirton Lindsey Retail Park in Station Road. Finally, the really determined heritage hunters should have at least a day picking through the treasures of 375 antique dealers at Hemswell Antiques in Gainsborough, and foodies will squeal at the range of produce available at the Pink Pig farm shop in Scunthorpe.
