Liked: I received a warm welcome when I entered this site, followed by an informative introduction of this quiet place. There was a self-service shop. Although I did not buy anything from there as I had enough food, I found the price of their sausage was quite attractive.

Disliked: Some comments mentioned about the cleanliness of the toilet or shower bay. I agree to certain extent but the condition was in fact acceptable.

Larkrise 1 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow

Liked: We had a lovely week staying at Larkrise in the cottage. We received a very warm welcome from the owners and the manager which was appreciated after a long drive. The cottage was very clean, with beds made up on arrival, and very comfortable. The cottage had everything we could possibly need and some things we hadn't even thought about! The shower is great, very hot and powerful which was needed after long days out exploring. Dishwasher and washing machine were also a welcome addition. No WiFi as it rural but our phones had surprisingly good signal and data worked with no issues. Larkrise is set in lovely surroundings of you want a peaceful holiday. There is a road but honestly you don't hear it at all. The camping field was a great safe place for our 9 year old to play when on site. He loved the goal posts. The onsite shop is well stocked and came in handy when we needed some late night ice cream. The local town is literally a few minutes drive away with a choice of small supermarkets, a great children's play area and even a takeaway or two. Further afield we visited The Deep, Cleethorpes Beach, Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Museum and many more.

Liked: We liked the big spacious pitches and the reasonable price. Also the hosts were very friendly.

Disliked: We didn’t like the lack of washing up facilities and the showers/toilets could do with more frequent cleaning

Liked: The location, the size of the cottage, the beds were comfy, the peacefulness

Disliked: The cottage wasn’t very clean and found some shorts at the end of the bed that wasn’t ours, could tell it needed a good clean

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry if things were not 100 pc...our manager was rushed into hospital in the run-up to your arrival . I thought my wife and I had completed preparations ok but we clearly were not as good as our manager...we did not even see any shorts even though we folded clean towels for you and put them on ends of the beds and hoovered around there..

Very peaceful location, well looked after grass, toilets not the best.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We had the whole site to ourselves, very peaceful. The views are amazing & the owners are very welcoming & helpful.

Disliked: The toilets weren’t the best, the amount of cobwebs in the corners around the shower and in the toilet cubical with spiders on them says to me the toilets are cleaned regularly or properly.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Our manager was rushed into hospital in the days before you came and she cleaned toilets etc regularly until just then . We have have consistent recent 4/5 for cleanliness.

Local attractions

To Lincoln first, we think, for castle, cathedral, Medieval Bishop's Palace and the two million or so objects of The Collection which now includes the Usher Gallery. Whisby Nature Reserve and Hartsholme Country Park, RAF Waddington, RAF Scampton and Cadwell Park motor racing circuit are all just outside Lincoln, while more speedy days out are at Gainsborough's Blyton Circuit and the hair-raising skydiving of Hibaldstow Airfield. Hang gliding is nearby at Trent Valley Gliding Club. History and heritage hunters in the region have quite a bit more to pick from, from the fifteenth century timber-framed stronghouse of Gainsborough Old Hall to grander piles in the region like Elsham Hall and Normanby Hall. The four-sailed Mount Pleasant Mill at Kirton-in-Lindsey is a pleasant sight for photos; afterwards, take one of the Kirton-in-Lindsey walks north or south from the market place. A garden centre for another wander is at Kirton Lindsey Retail Park in Station Road. Finally, the really determined heritage hunters should have at least a day picking through the treasures of 375 antique dealers at Hemswell Antiques in Gainsborough, and foodies will squeal at the range of produce available at the Pink Pig farm shop in Scunthorpe.
