  • Peaceful back-to-basics site nine miles from Newark
  • Campfire area for guests to share
  • Pub serving food 600 yards away
Steal a break getting back to basics on the four and a half level acres of Poachers Patch in the village of Brant Broughton in Lincolnshire – although there's easy access from the A17, this is a peaceful place, set back from the road on the south end of the village's High Street. The pitching area is a long meadow that borders the Sandbeck stream to the south and the River Brant to the east, and has a designated campfire area for all guests to share (ghost stories a must, of course…) and a loo block with hot and cold water. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on site. The local pub the Generous Briton is 600 yards away; it serves food and takeaways, and has a café opposite that's open from Thursdays through to Sundays. Nearby Navenby has a fish and chip shop, an Indian takeaway, a baker, a butcher, antique shops and two pubs.

Liked: Peaceful site Offered wifi which is a bonus even if it was patchy Clean showers and loo 5 minute walk to local pub

Disliked: Just one ladies loo which was ok as the campsite was very quiet but might have been a problem if it had been busy

Primitive grass tent campsite (backpacker, small, two person)

Liked: Wonderful welcome from Everett great situation close to the village. 11/10 for the cleanliness of the toilets & shower, really were among the best i have ever used on a campsite. Pitches were well defined by marker posts. Despite some changeable weather on the 2nd day, had a wonderful weekend, friendliness of the proprietors was great, wonderful chat and general exchanges throughout the weekend. Thanks once again to Everett for the welcome, the ongoing banter & all around friendly & chilled vibe while maintaining a well kept site. Quiet low key place allowing time to unwind and relax. Wonderful.

Disliked: Not going back soon.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The site is immaculately clean , good location for travelling down the country, good size pitches, the lady owner was very welcoming and explained we're the nearest shop is . The site was very quiet only 1 other campervan near us .

Disliked: The attitude of the male owner , sorry, but he's so unwelcoming and flies round on his golf buggy not even smiling at guests . Only one shower for the ladies

Liked: The owners greeted you and gave you a leaflet about the site and information about the area the shower room was the best I’ve ever used on a camp site and everyone had so much room between each other so my dog had space to relax and play

Disliked: Only one toilet for ladies but 3 for men but didn’t affect anything there was never a queue and there was a toilet in the shower room

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Small & friendly site. Immaculatly clean facilities - shower room like home from home. Generous pitch sizes. Free WiFi. Short walk to pub serving great food.

Disliked: No local shops (clearly not the sites fault!). Only one ladies w/c and one shower room (which was absolutely fine for us as site had only a few occupants - but could be an issue at peak times?).

Hop in the car, for day trips are all around from Poachers Patch. Newark-on-Trent, aka Newark, is nine miles away and since 2015 has been home to the Newark Torc, which can now be enviously viewed in the National Civil War Centre and Newark Museum; other sights to see are the many listed buildings in and around town, including the rising spire of Church of St. Mary Magdalene – honestly, you won't be able to miss it. Also close by, see the 30+ exhibits of the Bubble Car Museum at Byards Leap, five miles towards Sleaford on the A17, and visit the market town of Sleaford and its Cogglesford Mill within 12 miles. Lincoln – for cathedral, castle, marina and the shops of Brayford Waterfront – is 13 miles away. If you feel like having some history, get hither to RAF Connisby, home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the only flying Lancaster in Europe, several Spitfires, Hurricanes, the new Eurofighter and a DC3 (Dakota). Or try a trip 24 miles away to Tattershall Castle, a medieval castle now managed by the National Trust.
