  • Peaceful off-grid camping meadow with pitches mown into long grass
  • Well placed for National Cycle Route 1 and Water Rail Way
  • Firebowls and hammocks provided; alpaca experiences to book
‘Say yes more!’ is the motto of the folk that run The Big Sky Hideaway, in the Lincolnshire countryside 10 minutes’ drive from Boston. And what will you be saying yes to if you stay here? Well, to start with that would be hammocks in the trees, alpacas to meet and firepits for evenings out in the open admiring the big starry skies… All of this is part of a family farm owned and run by Em and Dave, who’ve set their site up to be a place where you can escape everyday stresses. You’ll be greeted with a cheery welcome from the couple, and will spot little signs around the site reminding you of the best things in life: friends, kindness and adventure among them. The practicalities of this feelgood site have been well thought out too: pitches have been mown into the long grass in the vehicle-free camping meadow, and each one has been provided with a firebowl. The whole site is powered by renewable energy and kept eco-friendly with compost toilets and a special shower system. Once you’ve settled in at your pitch, take a stroll around the woodland to find one of those hammocks to hang out in, sign up for an alpaca experience or ask for a tour around the newly planted orchard, garden and tiny forest. Or of course you could leave the site – perhaps for a ride on nearby National Cycle Route 1 (which passes about 100 metres away) or a day at one of Lincolnshire’s excellent beaches?

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great location and lovely hosts. The site was really peaceful and the wilding between camping pitches made you feel like you were on your own little wild camping trip.

Communication was top notch and being able to message Dave with any requests was super handy. We managed to forget the top grill rack for our BBQ and Dave was only too happy to help, he fetched out the rack from one of their BBQ's and saved the day!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Aw what a fab site! Very well laid out and imaginative use of space, great environmental ethos for e.g. mowing glades, sustainable use of water and eco showers. The barn is a fantastic space, inclusive of bar, and is perfect for families, groups and as a hangout spot. Had a nosey on the converted buses which looked great, very creative. Composting toilets and sink area kept functional and clean. Quiet location though could hear distant music from an event on the wind, but not bothersome. Adorable alpacas on site who are clearly loved and well cared for. Didn’t meet Emms sadly but Dave could easily be a buddy! Friendly, approachable and helpful; can’t ask for more from a host. Will definitely be back with an alpaca & camping-mad friend when she returns to the UK, also wishing I could have stayed longer than my quick one night stopover!

Disliked Nothing! Couldn’t get any heat from the eco shower (no real instructions found on how to turn it on!) but wasn’t an issue for a quick cold rinse, and did initially miss the turning from no obvious signage on the road but understand this is to keep it hidden and retreat-like. Outlet from washing up sink drained into just a bucket which was overflowing at the time, a soakaway or attenuation tank for grey water could help a better system to redistribute the water.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Fabulous campsite, beautiful meadow setting for pitches. Composting loos, fire pits and a cafe and bar in the barn along with games, football pitch and alpacas! Owners are very welcoming and helpful - fresh bread and eggs delivered to your pitch - they even offered extra blankets and a hot water bottle on a chilly May night. We will definitely come back and we recommend you give them a visit.

Disliked We liked everything.
