  • Secluded farm site in the Leicestershire countryside near Hallaton
  • A 20-minute drive to Rutland Water; half an hour to Leicester
  • See farm animals and collect fresh eggs for your breakfast
Chestnut Lodge Farm is a quiet farm site in the Leicestershire countryside, about five minutes’ drive from the village of Hallaton. This is a place to come when you’re after peace, seclusion and lovely views – the site is surrounded by meadows, ponds and small woodland areas (and all of that means plenty of wildlife to spot, too). This is a working farm, so you’ll also be able to meet various farm animals around the site – including the chickens, whose eggs you can collect for a tasty and very local breakfast. For other meals you can either light up your barbecue (source supplies for that 10 minutes away in Uppingham) or take a trip to the local pub for some traditional British meals – it’s about half an hour’s walk away (or five minutes in the car). Given the location, it’s no surprise to hear that there are plenty of places to get out for a rural walk or bike ride nearby – and you can stretch your legs further at Rutland Water, 20 minutes’ drive away. For other days out it’ll take you about half an hour to drive to Melton Mowbray (home of the pork pie) or Leicester, to see the National Space Centre.

Primitive cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Spacious site, very very peaceful, lovely area. Lots of space for kids to play and explore. Animals on site (chickens, ducks, sheep, goats) for kids to see.

Disliked Access road very rough and unsuitable for large vehicles or caravans. On leaving , had trouble getting up hill on loose surface, with wheel spinning. If I had a larger caravan it would be almost impossible without 4 wheel drive.
Only one portaloo for site. Not really suitable for size of place.
“Hard standing” area is rough, uneven and dirty.
Value for money? No electricity, no showers, no hot water, and a portaloo?
