  • Roundhouse glamping at a recreated Stone Age site in Hertfordshire
  • Hertfordshire Zoo and the Speedway Museum five minutes’ drive
  • Family-friendly site with a bistro, disc golf and organised activities
Step back in time to stay somewhere completely different… At Celtic Harmony Camp, 10 minutes’ walk from Brickendon in Hertfordshire, accommodation is in reconstructed Iron Age roundhouses set in 13 acres of ancient woodland. Hitting the spot for history enthusiasts and families with curious kids, this is one of England’s largest Iron Age settlements and offers up cosy, unusual glamping combined with modern comforts. Each roundhouse has a traditional thatched roof and a simple circular interior with whitewashed walls. Sleeping three, every one contains a double and single bed, seating and storage; bedding is provided. Thoroughly up-to-date facilities include the Woodland Bistro (open 10am–6pm daily) and a spotless shared shower block. Outside in the grounds, kids and dogs can have a good run around on the woodland nature trails. There’s also a play area with a sand pit and you can book archery sessions, have a game of disc golf or listen to talks on life in the Stone Age. Hertford town centre (10 minutes’ drive) has a decent selection of restaurants and shops, and Bayford station (25 minutes’ walk) has direct trains to King’s Cross in half an hour if you fancy a trip into London and back.
