  • Remote family-friendly site on a farm with views of the Malvern Hills
  • Ledbury 10 minutes’ drive; Hereford and Worcester half an hour
  • Playground; dog park; communal kitchen and launderette; cycle hire
One thing’s for certain: the owners of Malvern Hills View Glamping are not overstating the truth when they talk about the views or the glamping aspect of their site. That’s the spectacular Malvern Hills on the horizon (you are just to the west of Malvern Hills National Landscape, which can be reached in a 10-minute drive). As for glamping, well… guests here benefit from a number of facilities, including comfortable beds with all bedding supplied (but do bring your own towels), well-maintained gender-specific toilet blocks and a launderette. Throw in a playground (with a ground-level trampoline) and a dog park, and you’ve got all the ingredients for a relaxing stay – with a twist of luxury – for the entire family. Sitting a 10-minute drive from Ledbury, this peaceful farm site stretches over nine acres of impeccably mowed field. With only 16 guests allowed at any one time, it’s a top spot for a family reunion. Exchange recipes with rarely seen cousins in the fully equipped communal kitchen (there’s a dishwasher, too), or catch up on what everybody’s been doing by the firepit. And when you need a break from long-lost family members (and nobody would blame you…), you can find solitude in the shaded hammock area. Two pubs serving traditional food are within a half-hour walk (or a 10-minute bike ride – and you can hire a bicycle on site), and some excellent walks start right from the farm, not to mention the splendid trails through the Malvern Hills and Wye Valley National Landscape (half an hour’s drive).

Local attractions

Take a stroll through the elegant Victorian streets of Malvern (20 minutes’ drive), stopping at leafy Priory Park, with a playground by a lake and the Malvern Splash Leisure Complex, if the kids are clamouring for some pool time. The Malvern Museum explores the history of the town as a thermal centre. Hereford (half an hour) has a large pedestrianised town centre spreading around an imposing cathedral that’s home to the Mappa Mundi, a 13th-century map of the world depicting known and fantastic animals, as well as Biblical and mythological events. The Museum of Cider illustrates the various stages of this locally made drink. On the banks of the Severn, Worcester Cathedral (half an hour) has vertiginous Gothic vaults and a 14th-century tower from where you can see as far as the Malvern Hills. For a primer on all things porcelain, head to the Museum of Royal Worcester, which displays an impressive collection of ceramics.
