Lovely campsite for short stay ,m50 traffic could be heard but didn't spoil our stay
Grass pitches

  • Peaceful farm site with pitches in a well-maintained orchard
  • On the edge of the Malvern Hills, 30 minutes' drive from Gloucester
  • Dog-friendly site; five minutes' drive from the motorway network
Beat a retreat from your workaday cares at Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site, a well-maintained spot close to where the Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire borders meet. With spacious pitches, quiet orchard surrounds and easy access to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty all sorted, all that remains is for you to pack up your kit and drive over here – a task made splendidly straightforward by the fact that this site's a mere five-minute drive from the speedy M50. Once you've pulled up at this rural spot, you could spend days cloud-gazing in the orchard, tramping through the Malvern Hills (perhaps with a dog or two in tow) or visiting cathedral cities like Gloucester (30 minutes' drive) and Worcester (35 minutes). After jam-packed sightseeing jaunts (or days of nothing but sweet repose…), hungry stomachs can be satisfied with a barbecue on site or treated to chef-cooked grub at the nearest pub (40 minutes on foot or a five-minute drive). Provisions for self-prepped meals can be picked up in nearby Ledbury (15 minutes). As is expected when staying at a small-scale farm, here you can expect peace, quiet and splendid views, but you won't come back to base to find a chocolate on your pillow. Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site is relatively low on frills, but key facilities like composting toilets, showers and a washing-up area are all on hand.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Small scale site that was quite quiet when we stayed. Easy to get to from the motorway. Plenty of hot water for showers. Lovely having the goats and pigs nearby to say hi to. Handy to have a fridge and small freezer available.

Disliked: Lack of any staff around to talk to. Amenities could do with some TLC. Open bin for food waste when there were quite a lot of rats about. I know they're a part of being on a farm, but I worried the open bins in the camp site would attract them to where the tents were.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Unfortunately you have stayed when we have had our own family holiday for a few days after a very busy summer. Saying that, our phone numbers are in various places throughout the campsite and you were welcome to call us at anytime night or day. The food waste bin is emptied regularly but we completely take on board your comments and will review this procedure. We have vermin control throughout the farm and we have never seen in the campsite. Regards Peter & team

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Lovely site in an orchard. Easy to find from M50 which isn't far away. Clean showers and toilets. Nice to see a few farm animals cows, calves and goats in adjacent paddocks.

Disliked: I'm not a lover of dogs and there were a couple on site but weren't a problem as owners kept them on leads and did pick up their mess.

From the manager: Thank you for your review - we do feel our location is ideal to get to with the motorway being reasonably close. We are mindful not everyone likes dogs but we welcome dogs to the farm as so many guests have them. Regards Peter & the team

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Nothing to dislike. Very friendly reception from the owners, had no problem with upgrading to electric hookup, really enjoyed just a few days relaxing watching the stock graze and the calfs having their say every now and then, would definitely staying again. Hope the young collie recovers well.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We have several pubs in a 3 mile area that offer food, however, as we are rural it is easier to drive to some of these venues Regards Peter & team

Local attractions

Set out for a recce of the Malvern Hills (five minutes' drive) and it shouldn't take long to find a spot to stretch your legs. Hollybush car park (10 minutes) is a pretty good place to start – here there are two scenic circular trails that can also be walked as a figure of eight if you're feeling energetic. It’s also half an hour to Symonds Yat for kayaking on the Wye, climbing and seeking out the peregrine falcons, goshawks and other raptors that breed on top of the rock. The Gloucester branch of the National Waterways Museum (30 minutes) is within a comfortable distance too if you'd prefer interactive exhibits and a narrowboat cruise. You'll likely want to be outdoors as much as poss when in these parts, so earmark some time for visits to Eastnor (10 minutes) and Goodrich castles (25 minutes). Trips over the border into Wales should also be on your radar if you're tempted to explore the overgrown ruins of Grosnor Castle (45 minutes), the handsome market town of Abergavenny (50 minutes) or the Brecon Beacons National Park (from 45 minutes).
