  • Peaceful glamping site on a Gloucestershire working farm
  • Secluded woodland on the edge of the Cotswolds
  • A 30-minute drive from Bath and Bristol
In need of a private getaway? That’s exactly what’s in store with a stay at Woodcock Farm on the edge of the Cotswolds, a 10-minute drive from Chipping Sodbury and 30 minutes from Bath and Bristol. The site may be close to civilisation but, on the southern edge of a 36-acre farm, it still feels like an escape from the world – sink into that feeling with rambling walks through the private woodlands and up to the Iron Age hill fort on site. Beyond the site, this area is fabulous for walkers and cyclists. The 102-mile-long Cotswold Way National Trail passes right by Woodcock – following the Cotswold Edge, the trail continues to Bath in one direction and all the way to Chipping Campden in the other, taking in spectacular views and villages along the way. Worked up an appetite? The glamping options available here have their own camp kitchen with a barbecue, sink, cooking utensils, a table and chairs, tableware, glassware and a coolbox or mini fridge, so you're set up for making your own meals. If holidays to you mean a break from cooking, grab a bite at one of the restaurants in Chipping Sodbury. The town is also home to shops and a bakery, so stock up on supplies while you’re there. Woodcock Farm is a haven for the environmentally conscious: the site is off-grid and keeps things green with a composting toilet and solar shower.

Local attractions

You can’t stay this close to Bath and not pay a visit to the stunning place. It’s known for its looks as much as anything and sightseeing tours should bring you to all the hotspots, but if you’re looking to dive head first into the city's history, check out the exhibitions at the Roman Baths, empty your wallet at the shop-lined Pulteney Bridge or rub elbows with the Georgian glitterati at the Assembly Rooms. The opulent history of this part of the Cotswolds isn’t just confined to Bath – pretend you’re a Jane Austen hero or heroine at the spectacular National Trust houses that dot the area. Horton Court, Dyrham Park and Newark Park are all within 25 minutes’ drive of Woodcock Farm. Want to get some shots for the ‘Gram? Pay a visit to Castle Combe, less than 20 minutes’ drive from the site – the village almost seems lost in time and feels purpose built for moody photos. Movie fans might recognise it from the 1960s musical Doctor Dolittle and the more recent Stardust and War Horse. If the kids are tiring of history, bring them to Bristol Zoo or the Cotswold Water Park, both within 40 minutes’ drive of Woodcock, or take a trip on the Strawberry Line Miniature Railway, 25 minutes from the site.

Beech bell tent (secluded, woodland)

Liked: A really unique location with amazing views both by day and night. Cosy and comfortable belle tent for our adult family. Sheltered and well-stocked kitchen. Clean throughout and lots of practical and thoughtful touches by the host which we appreciated. Great communication with host. No wifi, but 4G so all good! We would definitely recommend if you want a little bit of adventure combined with luxury.
