  • Family-run pub site between Worcestershire and Herefordshire
  • Tewkesbury and Upton-upon-Severn both within five miles
  • Locally-produced food served Tuesday to Saturday; carvery on Sunday
Once you’re all pitched up, you can head straight in for a pint or a wine – this park is rather handily tagged onto a cosy pub. The Hunters Inn, on the edge of Longdon village, is a handy four miles from the historic town of Tewkesbury around half an hour’s drive from Cheltenham, and also within easy reach of several of the area’s most famed historic attractions, including Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucester Cathedral and Hartlebury Castle. The Malvern Hills are also a cinch to get to for walks and big bike rides, and the water meadow at Severn Ham, just outside Tewkesbury, is smashing for a bit of wildlife spotting and birdwatching. When you’re done with days of Worcestershire sightseeing, return back to base for a barbecue. However, if you’d rather have someone else do the cooking, then the pub serves some pretty great locally sourced food instead. There’s a nice sprinkling of entertainment here too: if you’re there for the pub’s monthly quiz, you can exercise some brain cells for a crack at winning the Hunters’ pub quiz crown.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Good sized level pitches, well kept field. Clean facilities. Very friendly welcoming staff. Fabulous food at the pub.

Disliked: Being parked next to the trampoline wasn't the best especially as we stayed on Father's day and there were a lot of families with children using the trampoline which made it noisy, next time we would ask to be further away from it.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: On campsite check in warm welcome from friendly gentleman who mentioned eating in the pub and even fetched menu for us. Spacious pitch. Facilities ok but a tired for the price.

Disliked: Do not eat at the pub unless you are ok with being served by a rude, ignorant and obnoxious person, who treats you like an inconvenience. On our arrival, we were greeted gruffly by a rude, unsmiling woman (manageress?) who barked ‘have you booked?’. The pub was half empty and a sign outside said ‘walk ins welcome! She demanded our name. Thinking this was something to do with being in the campsite, we gave our name. From then on we were treated like we were wild camping in the car park rather than paying guests on the campsite. The woman finally grudgingly seated us at a vacant table and demanded that we order our drinks from there so we asked her about available drinks and she didn’t seem to know! Finally my husband had to go to the bar to check the available beers and was told in a very patronising manner that the one he had chosen was about to run out. Throughout our meal her behaviour didn’t improve. She was rude and patronising throughout. We were shocked! We would rather have been served by the pleasant, young waitress but we felt very sorry for her as she was like a rabbit in the headlights under the dubious ‘supervision’ of the older woman. We were prompted, because of the treatment we had received, to check previous reviews. Sadly we are in 2024 and nothing has changed since 2019.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Liked the pub and the carvery was 10/10 and the staff all lovely

Disliked: The downside was the toilet and shower facilities they really need a makeover especially for the money you are paying to stay the night. Plus if your eating in the pub it would be a good idea to have a discount on the food or discount rate on the campsite

Liked: Nice welcome on arrival, good little site set in a wooded paddock/field. Clean toilets and shower. Food and beer at pub excellent. Very quiet but loud dawn chorus which was pleasant to hear

Disliked: Didn't realise we would need an extra long hook up lead but the pub will always lend one.

From the manager: Thanks for your lovely review, we are so glad we were able to help you out with a longer cable.

Local attractions

Over in Tewkesbury, begin with an amble alongside the River Severn or opt for a boat trip along the Avon; then head to the town’s most famed landmark, the 900-year-old Tewkesbury Abbey, and have yourself a heritage wander around its walking trails. The Pepperpot in Upton is also a topping option as an historic highlight, as are Hartlebury Castle and the cathedrals at Worcester and Gloucester, all within easy driving distance. The area plays host to lots of festivals and events throughout the year too; if you’re in the area in July, make sure you check out Tewkesbury’s famed Medieval Festival, where thousands from all over get together for Europe’s biggest annual medieval reenactment: let the merriment commence and the mead flow forth. Elsewhere, this top Worcestershire spot is a most handy locale for outdoorsy and active adventures: there’s a golf course in Tewkesbury and several horse riding schools are in the area too, plus walking and cycling are popular around the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a short drive away. Severn Ham is also a splendid place for a walk and a bit of wildlife watching: be sure to take a pair of binoculars or even just your camera phone, because you’ll likely want to snap all the critters and birdlife you’ll find around this wild water meadow.
