  • Furnished bell tents on a farm 25 minutes’ drive from Gloucester
  • Haresfield Beacon 10 minutes’ drive; Cheltenham 25 minutes
  • Dogs welcome; resident farmyard animals; far-reaching rural views
The splendid Gloucestershire countryside stretching between the River Severn and the western fringes of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is home to Greenways. This remote and peaceful pop-up site on a working farm sits a 20-minute drive from Stroud and 25 minutes from Gloucester. Guests here stay in well-appointed and fully furnished bell tents with comfortable beds and cosy furnishings, plus rugs, bunting and fairy lights. And if that’s not enough, there are friendly lambs and inquisitive goats on site, so the kids should have plenty to keep them occupied (and – one would hope – happy). While the bell tents definitely earn this place the ‘glamping’ badge, please note that on-site facilities are rather limited: toilets are of the portable kind, and there is no hot water, for example. Having said that, the spectacular country views and the easy access to walking trails ought to trump any such issues. Where can you (and your dog, who is a welcome guest) walk, then? Well, you might want to start at Haresfield Beacon (10 minutes’ drive), a gently hilly area of woodlands and grasslands with views stretching as far as the Severn Estuary and the Brecon Beacons. Coaley Peak (15 minutes) has wildflower meadows, Neolithic long barrow remains and picnic spots with views of the Severn Vale. Or head to Doverow Hill (15 minutes), just outside the historic town of Stonehouse (five minutes). Speaking of which, Stonehouse is probably where you’ll go when you need provisions for your barbecue, a good restaurant or a traditional pub.
