  • Large bell tents on a farm a 10-minute drive from Chipping Campden
  • Broadway Tower 15 minutes’ drive; Bourton-on-the-Water half an hour
  • Kingsize beds; rural views; five minutes’ drive from a country pub
Picture the scene: a large field in a valley carved by a brook in the northern fringes of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Add lush hills all around and areas of ancient woodland. Finally, sprinkle in a few bell tents, and there you have it: Fossewold Cotswold Camping. This family-friendly site is on a farm a five-minute drive from the village (and the pub…) of Stretton-on-Fosse (or halfway between Coventry and Cheltenham, if that makes things clearer), in rural Gloucestershire. Large bell tents come with kingsize beds (bedding included), a folding table and chairs, and fairy lights for a warm, cosy glow after dark. And there’s oodles of space outside, so the kids can run around and play without stepping on anyone’s toes. An exploration of the area might take you to viewpoints like National Trust - Dover’s Hill or the Broadway Tower (both 15 minutes’ drive). The former is a natural amphitheatre with expansive valley views, while the latter is a folly designed by 18th-century landscape gardener Capability Brown. Its roof is the highest point in the Cotswolds, and on a clear day you can see a whopping 16 counties from there. Local nature reserves include Greystones Farm (25 minutes’ drive), with its wildflower meadows, grazing cattle and archaeological heritage such as Iron Age burial pits. Or perhaps you’d like to check out pretty Cotswold villages such as Broadway (20 minutes), its high street lined with independent shops and art galleries; or market towns like Chipping Campden and Moreton-in-Marsh (both 10 minutes).
