Site 2 for non-electric pitches

  • Gloucestershire family campsite with Cotswold Hills views
  • A 15-minute drive to Cotswold Farm Park; 30 minutes to Blenheim Palace
  • Five minutes’ drive to Stow-on-the-Wold; bus service nearby
Along with a spacious grass camping ground (as one might expect of sporting pitches), Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club has some seriously eye-catching views of the Cotswold Hills. This site is in a fab location just outside the historic village of Stow-on-the Wold in Gloucestershire, making it a smashing spot for family rambles, touring and gallivanting all over the Cotswolds. From the hilltop pitches you can walk for miles on local footpaths without going near a road (thus making this a cracking base for cyclists too), and if you’re keen to get on the golf course, you can book a round at Naunton Downs Golf Club (10 minutes). Eager to do some city sightseeing but prefer to leave the vehicle behind? No worries, a local bus service leaving from the local village of Oddington (a short walk away) can whisk you off to theatreland in Stratford-upon-Avon (40 minutes) or the dreaming spires of Oxford (55 minutes). Back on site, simple facilities include showers, toilets and a wifi connection (around the clubhouse) so you can keep in touch with the folk back home. Stow (five minutes’ drive) has cafés, bars and a couple of small and handy stores for basics. For more amenities, the best stop is Moreton-in-Marsh (15 minutes) for markets, pubs, supermarkets and indie shops. It’s also got a mainline rail station with services to London.

Liked: Views, and most of the time it is a very quiet site. Like the fact that it only has 6 hard standing pitches. Close to Stow town centre. Bar on site if required. Overall enjoyed our stay there

Disliked: Toilets aren't cleaned regularly enough. Some of the younger members of the rugby team hanging around the children's swings using very colourful language was a tad off putting. Coupled with the fact that they were trying to break some of the equipment and I think did actually break part of the surrounding fence .

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & leaving your comments. we're sorry you didn't appear to enjoy your stay on our site. We do not have full time staff on site, the facility isn't big enough to support the costs of full time staff & they would be largley unemployed for the number of people we have visiting. We have a clubhouse manager who is part time & is usually available on the phone number displayed on the notification board & on your booking form. Unfortunatly at the time of your visit our manager had some family emergency to deal with & quite rightly family comes first. Yes, some of the pitches are on a slope, not unusual in the Cotswold hills, this is made clear & is obvious from other users reviews, however virtually all our visitors in campervans carry their own blocks & don't find it a probelm. Our showers & toilets are cleaned daily, & at busy times twice daily & fully stocked, times for cleaning can vary depending on cleaners availability but mostly before 9am. If this haden't been done at the time you visited we apologies, occasionaly we have to vary our cleaning times. We're confused by your comments on pipes left outside the toilets, the only pipes around the showers & toilets are the water feeds & waste pipes which mostly run under the toilet blocks & around the back of the units so should not be accessable to users unless they go out of their way to go behind the blocks, for which there is no reason to do so. We've checked the slab steps up to the units however cannot find any broken slabs so we're not sure what you appear to have found, likewise, there are no external sockets on any of the toilet or shower blocks, however in an ajacent portacabin there is a water supply meter for the people who rent this space & this is probably what you noticed, i'm not sure why you would need to tresspass into another site if you were using the showers or toilets. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, we will take any relevent comments on board & do whatever we can to improve our site. Kind regards, Club Director.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Close to Stow which is a lovely town. The toilet and shower blocks are okay. The rugby clubhouse is open until 10pm.

Disliked: There was no one to welcome us when we arrived. Our name was missing from the arrivals board which is used to direct campers to their allocated pitches. The staff didn’t respond to the messages we left. When the staff finally did turn up they didn’t provide any information about the facilities. The pitches are located on a significant slope yet there was no offer of chocks or supports to level up the motorhome.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & for your reviews. Unfortunatly we don't have full time staff on site dedicated to the camp site, the volume of visitors just dosen't warrent it, however we have a club house manager who is on site a great deal of the time & can be contacted on the phone number shown on the board or on the booking reference. Occasionally she is not available for personall reasons but will usually call back & I understand did so twice in your case, but no one answered. When our staff are available they usually detail where the toilet, shower & wash up facilites are, which are also signed, & there is little else in the way of facilites to explain, the bar opening times are displayed on the clubhouse door. If your name was missing from the board we apologis, however it is very obvious where the numbered electric grass pitches are, so should not have presented difficulty. Some of our pitches are on a slope & we don't stock levelling blocks as the vast majority of our visitors in camper vans carry their own blocks. We will take your comments on board & do our best to make improvments where we can, thanks for visiting us. Kind regards, Club Director.

Liked: Well located for exploring the Cotswolds some walks to oddington from the site on site catering

Disliked: The toilet and shower facilities were not very clean and the dishwashing area also not clean

From the manager: Hi, thanks for visiting & leaving comments. we're sorry you found the site cleanliness an issue, the dedicated toilet & shower blocks are cleaned daily & re stocked, occasionally due to staff availability issues this isn't done until later in the day. The wash up area is just a stailess steel sink & drainer which is cleaned every day, it may be that your visit coinsided with rugby training night as the changing rooms are next to the wash up area. We'll take your comments on board & do our best to mprove our facilites. Many thanks for visiting us. Kind regards, Club Director.

Will recommend you with friends and family.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Easy to find and well located.

Disliked: Toilets hadn't been cleaned or re supplied upon arrival but were done the following morning. Pitching area is almost all sloped, the only area that isn't had sign stating that it was reserved but no one arrived to stay there during our stay. No one was present from the site during our stay to ask about the camping area.
