Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Plenty of space and flat pitches, never had to queue for facilities. Firewood for sale at a reasonable price.

Disliked: The shower I used was ice cold and you had to repeatedly press the button to keep the water on. Handy to have a cafe in walking distance.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Amazing campsite. Really clean toilets and showers were great, views were perfect wherever you camped there was a lovely view to wake up to. Short walk to a lovely cafe and only a 10 min drive to Bakewell / Buxton to right in the middle of everything. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to do hikes or visit the local villages.

Disliked: Slightly overgrown grass

Liked: Gorgeous campsite with stunning views. Large enough to find a quieter spot. Toilets were modern and clean. And there is a portable shower option if needed.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Nice views from where we were pitched. Nice location, clean facilities and cleaned daily I think. Would go back but get an early pitch...

Disliked: Seemed a bit crowded at times tents close together I thought. Some cars drove at speed across the field even though small children randomly running around the site. Wasn't keen on the smoke the firepits put out. Showers cold at times..

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Lovely views. Clean campsite and toilets and showers all clean too. Good value for money.

Disliked: It wasnt clear that there was more than one field to camp in. Too many pitches in the field so Friday and Saturday it felt very cramped and a bit claustrophobic for me. Also no hot water in shower.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Had space for a car and a tent, right near the shower block, had toilets and dish washing area nearby, lovely scenery, and management, laid back, good cost, basic but great, can get a bit busy

Disliked: If you listen closely you can hear the cars passing,

Local attractions

Boots and bikes at the ready – this is a frankly fab area for both ways of gadding about. Quiet lanes and footpaths await just outside the site, and there are hundreds more to explore around the national park. A popular pick is the Monsal Trail, a nine-mile traffic-free stretch along a disused railway line, steaming its way through cuttings and tunnels. If you want to get up closer to the local limestone geology, an activity centre 15 minutes’ drive away can sort you with days of climbing, caving or abseiling. For an easier way to access the underground, take the 20-minute drive to the Blue John Cavern for a tour of the subterranean scenery. Fuel whatever antics you’ve chosen with a trip to Bakewell, 10 minutes away, to feast on the famed local puddings and tarts. For more foodie treats, there’s a fine farm shop at the Chatsworth Estate, 20 minutes away, so it’s worth calling in there once you’ve had a tour of the house, wandered through the gorgeous gardens and/or let the nippers loose at the woodland playground.
