  • Motorhome stays at a country pub in the Peak District National Park
  • Hayfield a 20-minute drive away for Kinder Scout and Stockport in 30
  • Wifi, play area, homecooked food and beer garden; barbecues allowed
Roll up in your motorhome to the western edges of the Peak District for stays at The Little Mill Inn – a traditional country pub in the old hamlet of Rowarth with pitches minutes away on foot from the bar – to follow walks or cycle rides straight from the front door on miles and miles’ worth of country paths with restoring ales and some homecooked food... Lounge in the spacious outdoor seating area next to the stream if the sun’s bearing down on this leafy part of Derbyshire or make your way indoors to the logfire if you’re seeking shelter from the weather – the owners assure that both muddy boots and paws are welcome at the inn. When safely ensconced indoors, kick off your shoes and curl up in front of the flames to use the wifi or go peer at the pub’s historic waterwheel and the Derbyshire Belle (an antique Pullman train carriage used on the London to Brighton train line) at this history-packed place that used to be a candlewick production facility back in the 1780s. If the rays make a return and it's time to sort errands, services like shops to pick up ingredients for cooking up on your stove are over in the small town of New Mills 10 minutes' drive away, which also has train stations and bus connections if you want to ditch the motorhome for the day. Back on site, The Little Mill Inn also has a play area for the kids to bounce around while you cook up dinner using your barbecue. No toilet or shower facilities are available at this park.

Local attractions

The cities of Manchester and Stockport are 50 and 30 minutes’ drive away from this park respectively, but before you tour Old Trafford football stadium and the Science and History Museum in the former or check out the heather-covered Fletcher Moss Botanical Garden in the latter, the Peak District’s topnotch country manors and pretty settlements await... Venture into the countryside right from the park on off-road wanders towards Hayfield (an hour on foot or 20 minutes in the car), which has access to the Kinder Scout moorland plateau – the highest point in the Peak District, Derbyshire and the East Midlands, making it a triple whammy of a peak for hikers to tackle – and the 268-mile Pennine Way trail. Or start off in a spa town like Buxton (35 minutes) for underground explores at Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park then make tracks to the Pavilion Gardens to spy the Victorian miniature railway. For historical manors from a different era, the early 17th-century Chatsworth House and medieval Haddon Hall are both around 50 minutes’ drive from the park (and are right by the town of Bakewell – yep, home to those tasty cakes…).
