  • Simple adults-only pitches at a small Peak District working farm
  • Bakewell, Chatsworth and Padley Gorge within a half-hour drive
  • On the edge of Castleton, 10-20 minutes' walk from the show caves
The Derbyshire village of Castleton is a pretty place to visit, at the head of the Hope Valley and surrounded by the landscapes of the Peak District National Park. Its central location within the national park also makes it a handy base for visiting lots of the top spots, like Mam Tor, Bakewell and the Chatsworth Estate. It’s not just a handy base for visits elsewhere though, as Castleton has its own attractions in the form of several splendid underground caverns and the ruins of Peveril Castle. They’re all very much worth visiting – and all of that is easily done from a stay at Castleton Meadows, just on the eastern edge of the village. From here you can walk to all the village’s attractions – even the furthest one, Blue John Cavern, is only about an hour away on foot (or 10 minutes’ drive). This is a simple and peaceful adults-only site on a small working farm, with lovely views all around (taking in Lose Hill, Mam Tor, Winnats Pass and Peveril Castle), and easy access to walking and bike trails for when you’d like to get out for a closer look at the scenery. Being just on the edge of the village also means you’ll be within a short walk of its shops, cafés, takeaways and seven pubs (good news for a post-hike pint…) Facilities have been kept simple here, but guests do have access to toilets and a small honesty shop for things like eggs and local jams (please note there are no showers on site). You’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue to cook up your meals if you like.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Site was in a beautiful area. Only 5 minutes walk into Castleton. Toilet very clean & staff very helpful & professional.

Disliked: Loud music early on Saturday morning. I think coming from the next door stables. Toilet very small & lid keeps lowering down while using it.
