  • Family-run Edale site at the start of the Pennine Way
  • A 20-minute drive from Ladybower Reservoir; 25 minutes from Buxton
  • Half a mile from a café, pub, railway station and visitor centre
Whether you're looking to get a toehold on craggy rock faces or fancy a taste of slow-paced village life, you can't go far wrong with a stay at this fab Peak District park. Head to Newfold Farm Campsite for hols full of hikes, cycles and hilly explores – the start of the long-distance Pennine Way is a few steps from the site entrance, with many other top rural spots a short drive away. Newbies seeking tips on what to get up to in the local area will be in good hands here – this family-run site is owned and operated by born-and-bred Edale folk who are more than happy to share their wisdom. The community-minded village is also home to a volunteer-run visitor centre, an independent café, a pizzeria and a lovely local pub. A railway station is less than half a mile away from base, so leaving the car at home is definitely an option for those heading here. Not that driving is an unpleasant business in this part of the world – on the road you'll pass by oodles of historic villages, valley views and grand country houses, including spectacular Chatsworth House… Dogs are welcome to join you at Newfold Farm Campsite; barbecues and bonfires are also allowed.

What customers say

Newfold Farm boasts a gorgeous Peak District spot, ideal for hikers with direct trail access. Guests rave about the new, clean restrooms, helpful staff, and the on-site cafe/pizza oven. While some noted dated pitches/restrooms and occasional noise, the overall vibe is great, with many planning to return.

Grouse primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Brilliant site, very welcoming. New shower/toilet block is amazing. Grass is very well maintained. You can buy wood, hire a fire pit. Also nice cafe/bar on site.

The views are brilliant particularly of Mam Tor, lots of great walks from the site itself.

Disliked Free will on pitch. It wasn’t an issue for us as we nabbed a nice place under a tree but maybe in height of summer arriving later you might not be in the best spot. So I’d suggest arriving prompt as such a great site!

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Great location, beautiful views, new toilet block is the best I've ever seen on a campsite (though already starting to get mouldy ceilings in the showers - need more ventilation!).

Disliked A little bit pricey. Hard standing pitches are quite close together although not overly so. Site does seem to attract quite large groups of younger people (schools, academies, etc) and there were a couple in while I was there but they weren't noisy or badly behaved at all :)

Sparrowhawk primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Really enjoyed our stay even with the wet weather. The staff were very polite and helpful, we camped for 3 nights and had plenty of fire pits and BBQ'S. The Pub was only a few minutes walk away and there's access to loads of different walks. We ended up doing the Mom Tor walk which was amazing. The facilities were great with clean toilets and washing up areas, the cafe was also really nice. The local shop didn't have any meat until Friday delivery so we unfortunately missed out on that but there's an Aldi not too far away which requires driving.

Disliked Nothing that we disliked

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked I loved this site. The pitches were well place so you always had a view.
A wonderful shop on site selling top local produce. Also near everything, great walks and wonderful pub.

Disliked I found the showers to warm, but not hot. I was often cold going in and cold coming out. However, the new block was lovely with nice touches Inc. washing up liquid.

Local attractions

Draw a straight line from this well-placed site and you're bound to come across something that tickles your fancy. Heading west? Stop off for strolls at Ladybower Reservoir (25 minutes' drive). South? Buxton's fancy shops and theatres are on hand, as are the gorgeous grounds of Chatsworth House (40 minutes). Up for some underground explores? This site is a breezy 15-minute drive from Castleton, a village deep in the White Peak where there are caves and caverns aplenty. Bobbing up and down along underground watercourses is on the cards at Speedwell Cavern, where subterranean boat trips are up for grabs. The nearby Blue John Cavern, meanwhile, also has much to marvel at, including Waterfall Cavern and its shimmering multi-coloured dome… When you emerge bleary-eyed back into broad daylight, you’ll probably be struck by the shadow of mighty Mam Tor (10 minutes from base). Hike up this handsome hill for a three-mile circular trail that'll stretch your legs and open your eyes to some exceptional vistas – on sunny days you'll also likely have the bonus sight of daredevil paragliders circling and swooping overhead.
