  • Small, friendly Peak District site close to several walking trails
  • A 10-minute drive to Buxton and Bakewell and 20 minutes to Chatsworth
  • Dog-friendly pitches; several pubs within a five-minute drive
For peaceful times in the Peak District National Park take a look at Longfield Farm, a small and friendly site surrounded by Derbyshire countryside. A 10-minute drive from the spa town of Buxton and the medieval town of Bakewell, the pitches here are well situated for all sorts of alfresco activities. In the surrounding Peak District, guests can pull on their walking boots and get stuck into several good hikes along the likes of the Tissington Trail and the Monsal Trail, each within a 25-minute drive. Dogs should find plenty to sniff out on countryside walks too, and cyclists can make use of the area's many dirt paths. For other outdoor activities to get the heart racing, there's kayaking, windsurfing and fly fishing 30 minutes away at Carsington Water, including taster sessions for first-timers. After all this, put your feet up at one of the local country pubs. Handily, there are several within a five-minute drive, including one with a large playground to let the kids blow off some steam while you nurse a well-deserved pint. This is a simple site with basic facilities only, but you’ll have access to water points, three toilets and a shower. If you don’t fancy a bite to eat from one of the local pubs, you're welcome to light up your own barbecue instead. Both Buxton and Bakewell have a good selection of supermarkets, or you can head to one of several local farm shops for meat and extras to put on the grill.

Liked Site is fab! Beautiful quiet. Stars were incredible. Kids loved the ponies, alpacas and ostrich’s (I think in last 2) in the field. Communications with the owner great and accommodated our group too.

Disliked Facilities are basic - but adequate for what we needed.

Liked Lovely location, good sized flat pitches, well maintained.

Disliked Poor facilities & not kept very clean. Frequently no access to toilet roll. No hot tap water. Only stayed 2 nights so avoided using shower as clearly was not cleaned while we were there.
Can’t comment on the staff because never came into contact with anybody!

Liked How scenic the location is, beautiful views, basic yet clean facilities, quiet, small site, peaceful set back from the road, loved that we were surrounded by animals, loved looking at the cows and sheep in neighbouring field.

Disliked The local cat whom took a liking to us, distance from closest village/town, no hot water at the outside sinks(note to go in and get the water from inside toilets left by owner slight inconvenience) xxx

Route directions

The entrance to the site is on Flagg Lane (not The Jarnett). There is a signpost opposite the turning for Long Field Farm and Lane End Farm Trust. Look out for the fixed sheep pens at the top of the track, then follow the lane down to the site entrance on the right and look for your numbered pitch. If you type Lane End Farm Trust into your sat nav that should take you to the campsite.

Local attractions

If your walking boots are a camping essential, take them over to the Tissington Trail for a fine 13-mile route through the Derbyshire countryside. The route commences a 25-minute drive away in Ashbourne. For a shorter trail, the Monsal Trail is 15 minutes away – it's easier on the feet with a less demanding 8.5-mile route. For adrenaline seekers, Carsington Water is half an hour’s drive away. Here, you can hire kayaking kit or try out windsurfing if you're feeling extra ambitious. If watersports aren't your strong suit, their taster sessions will help to ease you in to the relevant techniques. For other activities that will raise your heart rate, there’s an outdoor pool in Hathersage 25 minutes away and several indoor pools within a 25-minute drive. Further afield, take a whirl on the rollercoasters at Alton Towers, a 40-minute drive away and with plenty to fill a full day. At Matlock Farm Park (30 minutes), a collection of cute animals should keep kids entertained; they can give horse riding a go too or gently feed the lambs if they're seeking some quieter time.
