Powered cement/asphalt and grass campervan campsite (no awning, small)

Liked: We stayed for one night in a campervan and used electrical hookup. Brilliant facilities block with proper showers! (Not the press a button for 5 seconds of water ones). Also has a kitchen area with facilities for making a hot drink (with tea/coffee provided), microwave, ironing, washing machine and washing up. Spotlessly clean and all done to a high standard. Great views and benches to sit.

Disliked: Small area for camper vans so not brilliant if you want to sit and relax by your van. We were in pitch 16 which is by the amenities (handy for the loo) but meant that the side of the van was a walkway. Didn't bother us as we were there for 1 night and the amenities block more than made up for it! Lovely views but the main road got busy in the morning. Again, this didn't bother us as we were up and about but may bother some.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Facilities, including the lovely showers and the kitchen (including washing machine). Easy access to bus to Buxton and Bakewell. Top tip: dobby bother walking to the official bus stop up the road. The bus will stop on the road by the campsite.

Disliked: Road noise, pitches 3 to 8 are badly positives in terms of sun light. They are the closest to the road and are right by the trees meaning those pitches do not get the afternoon out evening sun. Pitches 1, 2, 9 - 11 seemed to get lovely afternoon sun. Was a bit like having a holiday in a car park.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Everything - excellent dog walk area/ very quiet/ lovely pitches large & beautifully enclosed with floral hedging for privacy / marvellous kitchen area with everything you could need / amazing communal lounge with reading materials, table & chairs, sofas, tv etc / fabulous hot showers that stay on + changing area. No matter what the weather, no mud anywhere all hard standing. The owners have put a lot of effort & thought into this site with no expense spared & it shows. We shall look forward to returning to your site on our next visit.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Local attractions

With Chelmorton in the midst of the Peak District National Park, there are heaps of outdoorsy activities within easy reach. Walkers and cyclists have miles of trails to pick from; popular favourites nearby include the Tissington and Monsal trails. Horse riding, canoeing and climbing excursions are also available around the park. And might you fancy pottering around the country’s fave country house? Then it’s off to Chatsworth, 20 minutes from the site – the Italianate stately home has been voted to the top of the polls several times for its fab collection of art, its stunning state rooms and its gorgeous gardens. There’s also a farmyard and playground here for the amusement of smaller visitors. Plan to spend a bit of time in both the local towns of Buxton and Bakewell – the former for its grand opera house and elegant spa town heritage, the latter for poking about in the market and sampling its famed sweet treats (which is better – the tart or the pudding? Well, there’s only one way to settle that debate…)
