Cowfield primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The communication from the site was great, very clear instructions on what to do upon arrival. The views from the site where also lovely.

Disliked: The pub is described as being a 10 min walk, that pub actually closed during Covid. The next pub (Royal Oak)is a mile walk. Really not a huge issue, but worth noting for others.

Liked: Brook Farm was easy to find and the email from the owner definitely helped us set up before we got there. Camping here for the night was great, the pitches are a good size and the facilities were kept as clean as possible and stocked up. Would highly recommend.

Liked: We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend here at Brook Farm camp site. It was a relaxing area with beautiful scenery, waking up to the sound of the birds and the farm animals around us was different but idylicc. The owners came and greeted us as soon as they arrived to make sure we got everything that we needed, they even went out of their way to fetch us some kindling and wood from a nearby shop for our fire. It rained on and off but we made the most of the warmth we did get, & when it got cold we made use of the campfire provided on the camp. We would definitely visit again as a family.

Disliked: Nothing to complain about. The children didn’t enjoy using the toilet as the smell was bad now and again but this was only when the toilet seat had been left up by other visitors and can not be helped- this is all part of the fun!

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: I liked this site because it was only a small site with around 13 pitches and just a few electric ones. It was on a grass field but was very quiet and peaceful. Basic essentials like a portaloo and washing up area with recycling bins. We arrived slightly later than planned but a gentleman arrived (sorry I didn't get his name) who gave us a lovely welcome a few minutes after we arrived which was lovely.

Disliked: Nothing

Cowfield primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We loved this campsite, it’s situated in a beautiful old English village with excellent views, the porta loo was spotless, there was plenty of washing up liquid, loo rolls, bowls, j clothes available. We walked 15 miles and stayed one night, we’d definitely return, the owners ensured we had everything and were available if we needed them. A great little campsite our dog loved it too.

Disliked: Nothing, it was great.

Cowfield powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: We absolutely loved everything about this place. Beautiful scenery all around, excellent walks both short and long. The onsite toilets were really clean. Plenty of space for the kids to run and play. Fire pits available to borrow. Lots to visit in the area too. The hosts made this visit absolutely delightful. As our first time using our own caravan we would like them to know they made this first experience wonderful for us. So helpful and accommodating to us as first timers.

Cowfield powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Nice location. An hour walk into Ashbourne. No shower or toilet facilities which we knew about. Fresh water available and somewhere to empty our portaloo. Ann the owner is lovely and met us on arrival to direct us. Very quiet site with nice views. I would stay again but only for couple days max due to no showers being available

Local attractions

The Peak District National Park is quite simply a fab place to spend a few days roaming around on foot, on bikes, on horseback… If you can’t pick a place to start your explores, perhaps aim for the stepping stones across the valley at Dovedale (15 minutes’ drive), or set out on the Tissington Trail, which heads out of Ashbourne to wend its way along 13 miles of abandoned railway line. Much excellent wandering can also be done in the grounds of the area’s smart stately homes. Chatsworth (40 minutes) is a fab place to fill a whole day out: as well as the art-filled house and gorgeous gardens, there’s also a farmyard, a kids’ trail and a huge playground area. The National Trust’s Sudbury Hall (15 minutes) and Kedleston Hall (20 minutes) are mighty fine options too. If you love a good scream as you plummet earthwards on a rollercoaster, a day out at Alton Towers (20 minutes) is a must on the schedule. For somewhat gentler family days out, try an animal encounter at Peak Wildlife Park (15 minutes) or a steam-driven ride on the Churnet Valley Railway (20 minutes).
