Head to Ilkley for a lively debate with the likes of Jeremy Paxman and Melvyn Bragg, or to get up close and personal with a literary legend like Louis de Bernières or Margaret Drabble.
This prestigious 17-day festival draws a glittering array of names every year, and there are over 200 reasonably priced events to choose from, including readings, workshops and discussions with authors, poets and journalists; literary walks; and comedy performances. The programme also features masterclasses for both novice and experienced writers, on themes such as investigative journalism or fiction writing.
Children aged 4-12 will find a whole weekend dedicated to fun kids' activities, including puppet shows, theatre workshops, drawing and storytelling sessions, and opportunities to meet their favourite writers and illustrators.
There's even a lively - and entirely free - fringe programme, with standup comedy, readings, live music and cabaret. Watch out for unexpected extras such as silly hats and cinnamon biscuits!
