  • Peaceful, secure touring pitches at a castle in Málaga
  • A 15-minute drive to the city centre's attractions and beaches
  • Scenic views across the city to the sea; dogs and kids welcome
Yes, it's a castle. A real-life castle in Andalusia. And you get to park your caravan or motorhome in the grounds – pretty nice, eh? Castillo Al Málaga is in the hills of the Limonar district, about four miles from the centre of Málaga. The elegant building dates back to the 1950s, when Jose Antonio Vasquez purchased the land and set about building a fabulous home that would entice his future wife away from city life. (Yes, it worked… well, you would, wouldn't you?) These days, the place is run as an events venue, but part of the estate has been given over to the touring site, allowing guests to share in the peaceful atmosphere and the gorgeous views over the city towards the Mediterranean Sea. Pitches are nicely sized and family friendly, with plenty of space for awnings, bikes and any other bits you may have brought along. Guests here have access to all the essential amenities including toilets, hot showers, a launderette and a wifi service, along with a sociable barbecue area (although please note barbecues may be banned for safety reasons in very hot or dry weather). Although certain parts of the estate are reserved for main-venue guests, you’ll be able to wander about a little bit on site – handy if you've got a dog that needs to stretch their paws.

What customers say

Rustic site, amazing olive/sea views. Handy for Malaga (bus/30-min walk). Adam's top-notch help is a highlight. Pitches are cosy, washrooms a bit old but clean. Watch for hot water kinks & doggy din.

From the manager: HI Eric. Sorry to hear your comments. The bathroom facilities have 2 showers and 2 toilets and are cleaned 3 times per day. They are less than a year old but we plan to update them even further this year. Usually any dogs in the area are quiet for the nights except when wild boars come down the mountainside. Our campsite is protected with fences, but they do cause the dogs in the area to bark. We have hot water in the bathrooms. Perhaps there was a temporary issue when you were staying. It could have been the gas canisters were empty, but if we were informed, we could have changed them in the moment for you.

From the manager: Hi Barry! Thanks for your comments. Yes, we are a natural and site, with varying sizes of earth pitches. The pitches range from 10m x 6m to 6m x 3m and are designated based on the size of your vehicle and availability. If the pitch you are designated to is not to your liking, we have no problem if you want move - as long as there is availability.

Liked Nothing about this Camping place.

Disliked Badly run down campsite. Terrible smells from Toilets around campsite. Not enough facilities to cater for amount of campers been put on site. No Reception or office. The area we were allocated too near next camper. We were asked to move in morning to let couple exit. Dogs barking all night from surrounding area. Road in terrible condition. Camper Spinning on our departure. The Advertising of campsite misleading. The rate also too costly for what you get. Have been coming to Spain for a long time worst campsite we ever stayed in.

From the manager: Hello Mr. and Mrs. Rutter. We are very saddened to read that our little campsite didn’t live up to your expectations; however, I hope to clarify some of your comments for other guests
1) Yes, we have an entry road with a 12% gradient, but we keep it well maintained. The are no bumps or dips in it. We have on average 10 motorhomes up to 9 meters arriving and departing daily with no issues. That being said, if it’s raining, the gravel could get slippery, like any road really. Regardless, we advise all guests to take it slow and steady and not stop going up the hill unless absolutely necessary.
2) A health and safety nightmare we feel is quite strong wording and absolutely disagree. Our site is rustic and natural but fully functional and with all services. Our bathrooms and showers are simple but functional and cleaned 3 times per day without fail. One comment that we cannot accept is that we are not clean. Everyone from the staff to the site manager to the owners pride themselves on our little piece of paradise, just a few km’s from the absolute center of Malaga city. We are 100% free of litter, or anything for that matter that would mar the beauty of the surroundings. The top ledge area of the camping is very popular with guests because it has the best views and is very peaceful. But as you know, we have another main level of camping area that does not pose any ‘risk’. We have absolutely no problem if a guest requests an alternative pitch and especially if it’s for a reason of not feeling safe in anyway. And yes, on the lower level (4 meters below) we have the bathrooms and toilet emptying facility which of course is covered. This in no way impedes the views unless of course you are looking for it to.
We do not expect everyone to love us, but we do know based on feedback that a lot of people do. That being said, if you are looking for a concrete parking lot like a lot of sites, then no, we should not be your site of choice.

Local attractions

Málaga city centre (15 minutes' drive) is likely to be your main focus of attention – it’s a lovely city with a good number of historic attractions and museums as well as some nice beaches. The Moorish Alcazaba, Roman amphitheatre and Gibralfaro Castle are good places for a hit of history, with the Centre Pompidou Malaga and Picasso Museum on hand for your art fix. There are also, of course, lots of great places to grab a drink and some tapas. For a change from the city, head up into the hills of the Montes de Malaga Natural Park, just behind the castle. Well-marked bike/hiking trails start just a few minutes' drive away, and daredevils can hit downhill trails at BikePark Málaga (10 minutes) too. For a spectacular sunset view, head to places like Mirador de la Unidad (10 minutes) or Mirador Del Cochino (20 minutes). Elsewhere along the coast, you may like to sign up for scuba diving, snorkelling and canyoning outings, hit the beach in Benajarafe (20 minutes) or go underground at the Nerja caves (40 minutes).
