Kampaoh Vagueira

When you’re wandering back from the town’s Vagueira beach, it’s worth stopping by at the fish market to see what looks good and perhaps pick something up for your dinner; you may also be able to spot local fishermen using the traditional Xávega fishing technique, with large nets pulled back to shore by men or cattle. Elsewhere along the coast, you could head north to Costa Nova (10 minutes’ drive) to see the pretty striped houses, or travel a little way south to the slides and pools of Water Park Splash Wave (five minutes). Heading inland, the little town of Vagos (10 minutes) is a sweet place to visit, with a toy museum and several historic chapels, and Ílhavo (15 minutes) has a maritime museum and the porcelain collections of the Museu Vista Alegre. Aveiro (20 minutes) is also worth a visit, for its canals, museums and striking Art Nouveau architecture.
