An Amsterdam break… but without the noise, crowds and expense that come with city centre stays? If that sounds like quite the combo, take a look at EuroParcs Het Amsterdamse Bos, a peaceful North Holland site surrounded by woodland, canals and open spaces in the 2,500-acre Amsterdam Forest, 10 minutes’ drive from Amstelveen. Although you might not guess it from the gorgeous green surrounds (which lend themselves well to strolls, swims, bike rides and canoe trips), the site is just eight kilometres from Amsterdam’s city centre. Arguably the best way to get there (and to blend in with the locals) is to hire bikes on site and pedal off along a cycle lane through the Vondelpark to the city’s central attractions in around half an hour or so. For those who prefer to save their muscle power for meandering around museums, it’s also easy to ride into the centre via public transport – a bus stop is just outside the site, and there’s a metro station within walking distance as well. Handily, there’s also a direct bus to Schiphol airport (around 20 minutes away) for easy getaways by air or connecting with trains to other Dutch cities. Back at base, lots of essential facilities are sorted, including a shop and a launderette; there’s also a spacious bathroom block with plenty of toilets and showers.

Awesome, chill spot near nature, with heaps of room. Staff are ace, showers are free, and everything's super clean. Great base for biking or catching a bus to Amsterdam. Might hear planes sometimes, but it's still a top recommendation for the scenery and city access.

Liked Schöner Platz, viel Grün und einem See, Amsterdam ist über dem Bus und Zug gut zu erreichen

Disliked Kann ja nach Wind ab 6 Uhr morgens laut werden, durch den Flughafen. Leider halten es viele Camper nicht so mit der Hygiene auf den WC‘s, so das diese Nachts und früh morgens sehr dreckig sind. Es ist auch kein Haustechniker zu erreichen wenn nach der Regulären Zeit, etwas nicht funktioniert, wir hatten kein Warmwasser bei den Duschen der Herren.

Liked Große Stellplätze im Grünen, tolle Lage in der Nähe von Amsterdam, schöne Gegend, um Fahrrad zu fahren, toller Weg durch einen wunderschönen Wald direkt nach Amsterdam. Gute Möglichkeit am Platz, um Räder zu leihen. Sehr nettes Personal.

Disliked Die Sanitäranlagen könnten etwas sauberer sein; der Platz ist recht laut wegen der Nähe zur Straße und zum Flughafen. Die Auswahl an Brötchen war morgens schon früh sehr begrenzt.

Liked Nice location , close to Amsterdam centre.

Disliked We had a group of noisy people behind us that were loud talking and shouting all night !
So spoiled our stay , although it was Kings day and everyone was drinking .
No bar or restaurant open when we was there.

Amsterdam – where to start? Well, depending on your interests, there’s (deep breath…) the Rijksmuseum, the Rembrandt Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Anne Frank House, the Heineken Experience, canal boat trips, Amsterdam Zoo, the houseboat museum – plus of course stacks of cafés, bars and clubs… best be planning several days (and nights) to take it all in. As enticing as it is, Amsterdam’s not the only attraction around these parts. Those seeking to tick off classic Dutch sights should aim for the Aalsmeer flower auction (10 minutes’ drive), snap windmill pics in Zaanse Schans (15 minutes) and take a tasty trip to the Alkmaar cheese market (35 minutes). If it’s time for a few breaths of sea air, venture to the fishing village of Volendam (35 minutes) to eat by the harbour while locals wander about in traditional dress, or head west to Zandvoort (25 minutes) for beach days, strolls in the sand dunes or watersports including paddleboarding and kitesurfing.
