  • Indoor pool, beach and swimming lake, choice of bars and restaurants
Pack your bags, gather up the family… and don’t forget your swimsuits when you’re headed to Vakantiepark Prinsenmeer, 10 minutes’ drive from Asten town centre. This North Brabant place is well equipped for family stays, with a bunch of stuff going on both in and out of the water to keep the whole group busy (and hopefully ample activity to ward off the dreaded “I’m bored” from the nippers…) You can dive straight into the action at the indoor swimming pool with all sorts of splashing and sliding shenanigans – there’s water spray equipment, a water cannon, bubble bank, waterslide and a separate toddler area (they get their own mini slide, too). If that all sounds a bit too much, opt to unwind in the whirlpool, Turkish steam bath and sauna instead. During high season, the lido opens up as well to ramp up the watery antics even further. Out here there’s a big lake with a trio of waterslides and a bunch of pedalos providing the action. The surrounding beach area is equally fab for sunbathing as it is for getting active – there’s a beach volleyball court, an air trampoline and a miniature golf course, as well as a playground and playful pirate ship for the sprogs. Cloudy day? Turn instead to the indoor play centre where there's a ball pit, toboggan run with sleds and bowling alley. And you might also wish to find a small amount of time to eat… The Vakantiepark Prinsenmeer folk have that covered with a selection of eateries, including a buffet place, bar, food court, ice cream parlour and snack bar.

Local attractions

If you fancy heading out for some more action, make your way to Toverland (20 minutes’ drive), a theme park with several rollercoasters to brave. If that’s up your street, you might also like the fantasy-themed Efteling amusement park (50 minutes). Away from the rides, adrenaline junkies can continue to get their fix with high ropes and ziplining courses to tackle at Klimbos Weert (half an hour) or Klimpark Fun Forest Venlo-Tegelen (35 minutes). For something a bit calmer, gentle strolls can be had around De Groote Peel National Park (20 minutes), with walking and cycling routes to conquer and plenty of bird species to spot. More critter encounters await at Dierenrijk zoo (half an hour) and Safaripark Beekse Bergen (45 minutes). Dial up the culture at Helmond Castle (20 minutes), a square medieval castle that houses a museum with contemporary art collections and historical artefacts. Or head to Eindhoven (half an hour) for a mosey round the city’s Philips and DAF museums.
