Budding archaeologists and art historians, this site has your name written all over it: Agricamper Villa Julia Pompei sits on the edge of the ancient city of Pompeii – the entrance to the Archaeological Park can be reached within a five-minute drive. If you play your cards right and make your move immediately after an early breakfast, you might well be the first person in when the gate opens. But the proximity to this important artistic and archaeological site is only one of the reasons to commend this peaceful site – the other major one being its location at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Being greeted by views of the volcano first thing in the morning is a pretty special feeling. Spacious grass and gravel pitches occupy a large garden surrounded by citrus groves, and the site comes with a number of family-friendly amenities, including a parent-and-baby washroom, a barbecue station and shaded dining areas, plus a pétanque court (they call it ‘bocce’ here) and a TV room. A toilet block with facilities for disabled guests, showers and a washing-up area complete the picture. Dogs are welcome here, and the site owners will be happy to pick you up from the train station of Villa Regina, which links to Naples to the north (half an hour by railway) and Sorrento to the south (40 minutes). There are several supermarkets within a 10-minute drive… but why cook your own food when you’re in one of the most gastronomically interesting regions of Italy? The modern town of Pompei (10 minutes’ drive) has plenty of pizzerias and restaurants serving Neapolitan specialities.

Spacious, level pitches in a citrus grove with Vesuvius views. Owners are super friendly & helpful, facilities are clean. Great for Pompeii, Naples & Sorrento trips. Minor downsides: surroundings aren't the prettiest & roads are narrow, but peaceful vibes & top hospitality make it a winner.

Liked Sehr schöner Campingplatz mit Blick auf den Vesuvio, geräumige Stellplätze auf Rasen, saubere Sanitäranlagen und mehrere Möglichkeiten, sich hinzusetzen (feste Tische und Stühle). Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen! Fahrradabstand von Pompeii.

Disliked Bei der Anfahrt muss man den richtigen Weg wählen, ansonsten steht einem eine echte italienische Herausforderung durch engste Gassen bevor.

Liked Bellissimo agricampeggio , personale simpaticissimo il sig.Pasquale mitico , massima professionalità e disponibilità, luogo incantevole , con il Vesuvio che fa da cornice , comodo alla linea Circumvesuviana , siamo arrivati a piedi agli scavi di Pompei , da lì comodo arrivare sia a Napoli che a Sorrento . Consiglio di provare questo Agricampeggio . Voto 10, anche per arrivarci , strada agevole in camper

Liked We liked the host, who was cheerful and delightful, the cleanliness of the grounds and the closeness to the site at Pompeii, which was about 40 minutes by foot.

Disliked The number of toilets and lack of space to put belongings in the small shower cubicles.
The surrounding neighbourhood is very litter-strewn.

Liked Nous voyagions en van. Nous avons adoré l’accueil, le calme et la propreté du camping.
Sanitaires simples mais toujours entretenus par une personne qui passe derrière vous à la douche.
Les citronniers nous ont enchanté avec une vue sur le Vésuve. L’accès à la gare à 1km et au site de Pompéi à 2kms.

Disliked L’accès est bien indiqué mais les alentours ne sont pas propres et peut inquiéter sur ce que l’on va trouver.
Pourtant nous sommes sur un site mondialement connu.

Local attractions

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii is known for the colourful frescoes of the Villa dei Misteri, the well-preserved mosaics of the House of the Faun and assorted temples. The vast site, which was buried by lava and burning ash spewing out of Vesuvius in 79 AD, also includes the Antiquarium Museum, displaying artefacts unearthed at the site. Built in the late 19th century, the vast Santuario della Beata Vergine Maria del Santo Rosario di Pompei (five minutes’ drive) can hold more than 2,000 people in its richly decorated interior dominated by a gilded organ. Exhibits in the Diocesan Museum include votive offerings. If you fancy a hike (or if you want to see up close what led to the destruction of Pompeii), Vesuvio National Park (25 minutes) has a network of trails, including one crossing the ominously named Valley of Hell. Keep your eyes peeled for foxes and bats, plus peregrine falcons and marsh harriers.
