  • Dog-friendly site in the Westerwald countryside
  • A 25-minute drive from Siebengebirge and 45 minutes from Bonn
  • Simple and spacious pitches with easy access from the B8
Countryside views and convenient access? That’s the enticing mix on offer at Camp-Rottura, surrounded by the gorgeous green landscapes of the Westerwald but with easy main road access from the B8 for stress-free journeys. Once you’re set up at this Rhineland-Palatinate site, you’ll be in a splendid spot for hikes, bike rides and other outdoorsy activities among the surrounding hills or a little further away among the volcanic peaks of the Siebengebirge area or along the banks of the Rhine. And there are city strolls close by too – in the lovely streets of Bonn (45 minutes’ drive away) or Cologne (50 minutes). The spacious pitches here are part of a relaxed site that welcomes kids and dogs and where you’re encouraged simply to unwind and soak up the views while you’re here. Simple facilities include toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point, and a bakery and restaurant are a couple of minutes’ walk away. A couple of supermarkets and a farm shop are within a few minutes’ drive for your self-catering supplies.

Local attractions

Hikers and cyclists can wander easily enough through the surrounding hills, or set off to the Siebengebirge area (25 minutes’ drive) to follow trails through a landscape of 40 peaks, peppered with orchards and vineyards and with some great views along the way (you may be able to spy the spires of Cologne Cathedral on a clear day…) There are more trails – this time of the waterside variety – at Staumauer Wahnbachtalsperre dam (half an hour), or you can get to the banks of the Rhine river with a similar length of drive. And how about a castle or two along the way? Within a drive of about half an hour you have a choice of the baroque Wolkenburg castle, 19th-century Schloss Drachenburg and the remains of the medieval castle on Drachenfels hill. Meanwhile, for a taste of very different history, you may like to stop in at the small Elvismuseum Germany (half an hour’s walk). Big days out nearby might take you to either Bonn (45 minutes) or Cologne (50 minutes) – both very walkable cities with attractions like the Beethoven-Haus and the Kunstmuseum Bonn Museumsmeile in the former and the cathedral and Lindt Chocolate Museum in the latter.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Power optional grass tent site

Liked: Beautiful place super friendly staff and really nice area. Mostly camper vans but the lady owner specifically chose us the sunniest spot for our tent which was lovely as we were the only ones in a tent. Showers were good it was close to where we wanted to go out for day trips

Disliked: There was only the one unisex toilet and the one urinal but 3 showers? I feel as though 2 toilets and 2 showers would have made more sense but it was mostly campervans so I guess this doesn’t matter to most but as campers it was slightly annoying

Power optional concrete slab caravan site

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Pitches are very small to get a 6.7m van in and out of. Site is obviously under construction. Suggested improvements would be 1. hot water at dish washing area. 2. Clothes washing facilities. There is room in the sanitary block for a washing machine. Now the negatives. 1. The site is in the middle of nowhere, no shops close by at all. 2. The site is right next to a main road and the traffic noise is constant right through the night. 3. The site is on the flight path for a big airport and again the noise is constant through the night.

Power optional grass tent site

Liked: Camp-Rottura is very obviously the owners pride and joy. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everyone was invited for a campfire and barbecue around the communal fire pit. You would not be able to tell this campsite has only been open for 5 months. We loved everything about this place. The owner spoke a multitude of languages and very good English. This place was full of brilliant people and would definitely stay again. Toilets and showers were nice and clean. The vibe is very relaxed and catered to those who enjoy camping for what it is. It is a nice site if you like to walk around the area. under 1 hour from Köln and 40 minutes to Bonn.

Power optional grass tent site

Liked: The mother and daughter that look after this place are lovely, really helpful and attentive. The pitches for caravans and tents are nicely laid out and presented. The toilet block was nice and clean with really good showers and the recycling and washing up area was good. We were staying to access Cologne for Euro 24 tournament, but the camp site is more suited for the outdoor explorer or anyone that just wants to chill out in peaceful surroundings. Bonn is a lovely small city not too far away and there is an Aldi and Lidl fairly close on main route for supplies.

Disliked: Not too much to do or access nearby, but I guess a big part for camping is getting away from things. The location is just off the main road, some clearer signage might be helpful as we drove past the turn off originally.

Power optional concrete slab caravan site

Liked: Toilets were clean. Effort was made in what is a very new site.

Disliked: Got there a day later than planned after a problem the day before. Only to be told that my paid for space had been resold to someone else and they couldn't be moved on because that had paid for the space now. Ended up finding a space for the night without facilities only for the site contact to ask if I would be coming back as they would be selling the space I was in the night before. I had already paid upfront for the 4 or 5 nights of my booking. I do expect a full refund we left and went elsewhere. The site manager was not unfriendly she just seemed oblivious to the problem.

From the manager: Dear Paul, thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. However, we would like to clarify the situation from our perspective. Our records show that we kept your reserved space available for you the entire time, anticipating your arrival. Upon your delayed arrival, you were able to settle into a spot with grass and electricity, which was fully accessible and usable. (Foto available) My mother, who was present on the site and does not speak English that well, simply asked if you would be returning. This question was not intended to reassign the space but merely to understand your plans. Why didn't you talk to us? We could have talked about it. Since we had reserved your space for the entire duration of your booking and had to turn away other guests, we are unable to offer a refund. We hope you understand our position and would be pleased to welcome you again in the future to provide you with a pleasant stay. Best regards, Camp-Rottura
