  • Set over 11 hectares in manicured grounds of a 19th-century château
  • A 35-minute drive from the Calais and Dunkirk channel crossings
  • Two pools, outdoor gym, pizza bar and cosy bar and restaurant
Peaceful, green and spectacularly scenic... Camping Château du Gandspette is a quiet countryside site set among the grounds of a 19th-century château, across 11 hectares of bloom-filled wooded parkland in the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park. The Calais and Dunkirk channel crossings are 35 minutes' drive away. This park’s pleasant woodland setting makes for a pristinely peaceful stay: the site has spacious and landscaped pitches surrounded by mature trees, loads of green space and lots of blooms and hedges. Leisurewise, there are two outdoor pools (one heated), ping pong tables and tennis courts, as well as a multisports area and an outdoor gym; activities run in high season too. Food is well sorted at the site’s well-appointed summer bar and restaurant, serving grilled meats and regional specialities such as Flemish carbonnade and potjevleesch, and at the snack bar for pizza and fries to eat in or take away. The bar and its viewsome terrace is where you can sink a drink or two (while watching major sports fixtures, if that’s your leisurely bent). And if the scenery isn’t enough to rouse you from your slumber? Freshly baked bread is on sale every summer morn.

What customers say

Stunning, well-kept grounds with roomy pitches. Spotlessly clean facilities, praised by guests. Friendly staff (shout out to Julien!) and fantastic amenities for all ages. Great location near Calais. Minor quibbles: pitch levelling and limited veggie meals.

Power optional concrete slab motorhome site

Liked This was a fabulous find. From the lovely welcome at reception from the staff to the facilities on site. Our pitch was spacious and well kept. The water stand pipes every couple of pitches make keeping the tank filled childs play. The shower block /toilets etc were very well kept and immaculately clean. I had took my two grandsons 12 & 13 yrs for a mini adventure - they were over the moon with the pool and the play facilities, in particular the football pitch, where they played in the evening with children of all nationalities - it was lovely to see. The bar and restaurant are great for evening drinks and food if you cant be bothered to cook. Im going to take my other half ( we left him at home on this trip) as I feel its a site that suits us as much as it suits families. Only a short 35 minute drive from the tunnel at Calais and it does everything it says on the tin.

Power optional grass site

Liked Beautiful site.
Convenient location; close to Calais and plenty of interesting historical, aswell as beauty spots so close by.
Quiet, well maintained site. Pitches great size and provide a feeling of peace and privacy in the main.
Facilities excellent; - terrific toilet block and amenities, - pool area, complete with 2 pools had ample space for all in the pool and on the surrounding terrace with plenty sun loungers, which also provided some shelter and shade as required, - bar and restaurant were lovely. Food was simple but perfectly suited to camping. Prices were very reasonable. Staff very helpful and friendly, - lovely play area, complete with bouncy castle, and 3 table tennis tables.
Reception staff were helpful, engaging.and friendly.
We forgot our adapter for accessing electricity outside, but we were leant one with no charge.

Disliked Having to pay to freeze our freezer blocks. It wasnt a large fee, and we can understand the principle behind it, but it might have been nice to have a freezer accessible and free to use, perhaps in the laundry room. This would have meant we wouldnt be restricted to reception opening times also.

Local attractions

The region is well served by road, rail and sea connections, including services such as the Eurostar and several from major Channel maritime operators. Camping Château du Gandspette is 45 minutes’ drive from the Calais-Fréthun high-speed rail international station too, making one-hour journeys to London, 30-minute journeys to Lille and two-hour journeys to Brussels and Paris a cinch. The site’s Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park setting is tiptop for hikes and bike rides around the area, with the GR 128 hiking trail (between Wissant in France and Gand in Belgium) within easy reach. Horse riding, fishing and golf are available in Ruminghem and St Omer, and for kid-friendly days out, bowling, go-karting and theme parks such as Dennlys Parc at Dennebroeucq and Plopsaland de Panne in Belgium are all within an hour’s drive. History buffs can take a trip to the Eperlecques Blockhouse, a kilometre from base, and the La Coupole bunker complex (aka the St Omer Dome) is less than 20 minutes’ drive away. Other war memorial sites and points of interest well worth a trip to include the Fortress of Mimoyecques, the 1939-1945 Museum at Ambleteuse, the Memorial Museum at Calais, the Atlantic Wall Museum in Audinghen and the Memorial Museum at Dunkirk.
