If you can't decide, have both with a stay at Camping L'Île du Rhin in the Ile du Rhin tourist region on the French/German border: that'll be two types of wine and cuisine to try then... It's all very peaceful here, set over seven acres under shady pines, and between the Rhine and the Grand Canal of Alsace in the village of Biesheim. If you're feeling (a little) active, the municipal pool just 500 metres away has reduced rates for site guests. Camping L'Île du Rhin provides plenty of sport and recreation activities like volleyball, badminton, football, basketball and pétanque. Kids have a playground where activities, entertainment and sports tournaments are held. The park also has a shop and snack bar (during low season, this is open from Friday to Sunday only), a launderette and a kitchen area with a coffee machine and microwave. Fresh bread is available to order and the nearest supermarkets are six kilometres away.

Powered grass site (XL)

Liked Great location with good services, good showers and toilets. Able to order daily your baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolate. Nice walks along the bank of the Rhine on the French side and able to see loads of huge Rhine cruise boats at Breisach.

Disliked Poor cleanliness, no organisation of the pitches, you wander around trying to find any electrical units and pitches all different sizes.

Liked OK site. Looks very glossy on the pictures but in reality quite tired and not particularly well cared for. Showers were tepid.

Liked Great setting. 20 min walk to Breisach with good train connection to Freiburg and further afield. 10 min walk to the bus stop on the main rd for access to Colmar and Strasbourg. Site is well maintained, clean and quiet. Facilities for petanque and other games. Bar-b-que facilities, restaurant and picnic area give a family friendly ambience. Staff were very pleasant and welcoming

Liked L’accoglienza, personale simpatico, codici per entrate e uscire, spazioso, ottimi servizi igienici.

Disliked Spesso quando si trova una piazzola vuota da occupare è perché la vicina presa di corrente a 3 poli x camper è occupata.Ogni box x corrente ha solo 2 prese a 3 poli ed è difficile trovarne una libera anche avendo il cavo lungo oltre 20mt. Non c’è nessuno se arrivate dopo le 20:00 e se non vi siete messi d’accordo per i codici per entrare dovrete aprire il cancello a mano e trovare la busta attaccata alla porta della reception. Non danno una piazzola precisa dovete ttovarne una libera voi. Il navigatore fa girare a destra verso il ristorante ma di sera dolo le 21:00 la strada è sbarrata da 3 paletti con gancio alla base. Per cui andate dritto e poi girate alla fine della strada a destra e dopo poco lo troverete a destra. Per inserire il primo codice dovrete comunque scendere dal camper:-)

Local attractions

Bring your toughest walking boots and get lost among the Alsatian days, trekking trails, history, rural landscapes and forests of Breisach country; local produce should of course be consumed, Pacmanlike, on the way too. Once you cross the border to Germany from Camping L'Île du Rhin, you'll be in the Black Forest, the country's biggest natural park and said to be one of the finest forests in Europe. Woods, mountains, valleys and lakes are all around, along with mighty scenic villages (said to have inspired the fairytales of the Brothers Grimm), watersports at the Titisee and the Schluchsee, and the many spa resorts of Badenweiler, Bad Herrenalb and the like. Back in Breisach, take a long lazy river cruise for smashing views of the local countryside and its many villages, rent a bike to pedal freely around, try some watersports or dip into the local pool, just 300 metres from base.
