What customers say

Great spot for Monmouth. Friendly staff, spacious grass pitches. Facilities need a spruce-up, though – showers/toilets, paid units & hot water issues noted. Some mention noise, dog mess & dated bits.

Liked Stayed here for MANY years as a child with my grandparents and haven’t had the chance to come back in 25 years. Elements remain the same but others updated.
Clean. Plenty of facilities. Quiet.

Liked Site warden was friendly and helpful, great location for visiting the town.

Disliked We didn’t end up staying the night as the kids wanted to go home after a week touring! But, the shower blocks weren’t particularly clean, the site has lots of security, gates, barriers and rising/lowering bollards which actually had the adverse effect for us, we felt that there may have been historic problems, not fact, just our assumption. The pitches were of a decent size but seemed unkept with broken slabs and uneven ground.

Liked The lady at reception was friendly.

Disliked The toilets sink and showers were very dirty
You have to pay to use the showers one unit took £1 and didn’t even work, you cannot change the water temperature and it was so hot the kids couldn’t use them.
There was lots of dog mess on the site.
Clearly long term residents staying there.
The language throughout the site at all hours definitely wasn’t suitable for young children.
There are dogs in kennels around the site constantly barking and being told to shut up, all look very neglected and uncared for.
It was upsetting staying there.
Also there were young kids wondering around the site unsupervised at all hours including two 2 year olds at 9:30pm alone in the toilet block.
The child’s park was full of rubbish and old vapes.
Wouldn’t recommend visiting the site.

Local attractions

This is walking land… Monmouthshire has over 1,000 miles of public footpaths to investigate, and walks all over the county including a couple around Glen Trothy's local village of Mitchel Troy, through woods and farmland and with views right across Wales and across the border to Herefordshire. County town Monmouth, the birthplace of Henry V, is these days a Fair Trade town with many independent shops, regular markets, cafés and restaurants alongside chain shops, the Monmouth Museum and the Savoy Theatre, believed to be the oldest working theatre in Wales. If you'd rather get a bit more active, the River Wye is around for kayaking and paddleboarding (and fishing for more contemplative times), and golf is available nearby. Too tame? Take a tandem paraglide flight off the Blorenge hill in the Brecon Beacons National Park. If the weather is a bit drizzly, piles of indoor attractions are around too, like the museums of Abergavenny, Monmouth or Chepstow or a castle visit to Caldicot and its country park, Tretower Court, Goodrich or Raglan.
