Parc Pen y Bryn
Parc pen y bryn
The cabins
Even and well-kept ground

  • Peaceful and well-maintained site on the edge of Clocaenog forest
  • A 15-minute drive from Llyn Brenig; 25 minutes from Betws-y-Coed
  • Modern site with easy access for large vehicles
Peace, quiet and woodland explores await at Parc Pen Y Bryn, a laidback, small-scale holiday park on the edge of Clocaenog forest. Some of north Wales' finest spots – like Llyn Brenig, Betws-y-Coed and Snowdonia National Park – are within easy reach of this niftily-located site. There's hardly a house to be seen at this secluded spot, where you can admire valley views and, in the distance, watch wind turbines turning slowly in the breeze. Well-placed outdoor furniture is on hand for those looking to sit in the open air and take it all in (perhaps, as per the site's pics, with a glass of vino). Parc Pen Y Bryn's top-notch hardstanding pitches make it simple for those travelling with tourers to roll up and relax. (The managers are also keen to point out that pesky narrow lanes won't get between you and your hols at this easily accessible site.) As well as that, the small number of pitches means there'll be ample room to roam at this spacious site, including for kids and dogs. The modern facilities aren't half bad either: the well-kept toilet and shower block can accommodate peeps who haven't brought their own. Those partial to cooking over coals can also set up a barbecue. Clawddnewydd, with its shop and community-run pub, is a 10-minute drive away (the site managers particularly recommend swinging by for Sunday lunch). The bigger town of Corwen on the river Dee is also close by (20 minutes).

Powered concrete and grass campervan site (medium)

Liked Lots of work has clearly gone into ensuring the pitches were well kept.
Easy to find location if you follow the instructions given. No narrow roads to go down!
Owner Rob was very nice. Introduced himself and was knowledgeable of the area and gave us some ideas of areas to photograph (I like landscape photography!)
The views are great. Many photos on here are not actually of the site and are places not too far away. There's a nice view from the motorhome section out in to the distance.
Nice small kitchen on site (well, a kettle and a wash basin but that's all you need!)
Showers and toilets were only a few metres away from the pitch and were very very clean.
Location - well, kind of. If you want a site in the middle of nowhere then this is for you. If you want to nip out for some milk or in my case midge spray then you have to drive and that's not easy for us roof-tent campers as everything has to be packed back up. No big deal for motorhome folk I imagine. But it is a nice easy to fine location.

Disliked The midges! - (clearly no fault of the site owners...but there were hundreds and we came up prepared for it. Sadly nowhere local to buy midge spray so we had to drive an hour to Chester, the direction we had come from to Go Outdoors for a midge net, midge spray and cream. Then an hour back to the site getting back at 8pm. Again no fault of the owners, but these pesky flies ruined the trip).
Machinery noise! - (in fairness to Rob he did warn me he was going to be compacting the road/drive with a hired machine but it "wouldn't be long". It was too long, and drove us mad, so we headed off into a very rainy/windy Snowdonia to take pictures. It was nice that Rob told us about the noise, as not many would do that...but it did ruin the peace with all the noise with the reversing alarm and rolling over gravel/slate/whatever it was). Noise isn't something every visitor will experience so don't let this review put you off.
Nothing else.... but we'd had enough of the midges and the bad weather and could hardly pitch up a roof tent in the rain, so, having faced a number of challenges (of no fault to the owners!) I text them to say we were leaving a day early. Didn't get a reply, but at least I let them know of our plans.
Thank you for having us Rob :)

From the manager: Dear Chris,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your stay at Parc Pen Y Bryn in June 2025. We truly appreciate hearing about your experience as a first-time camper and are glad you found some aspects of your visit enjoyable. I’d like to address your comments to provide clarity for both you and future guests.
We’re delighted to hear you appreciated the well-maintained pitches, the easy-to-find location, the stunning views from the motorhome pitch, and the cleanliness of our showers and toilets. It was a pleasure to meet you and share local recommendations for your landscape photography—thank you for your kind words about our hospitality and the small kitchen facilities!
Regarding the midges, we understand they can be a challenge in rural Wales occasionally , especially in summer, and we’re sorry they impacted your trip. As you noted, this is a natural occurrence beyond our control, but we’re happy to provide guests with tips on local shops or precautions for midges upon request. For future visitors, nearby stores in Ruthin, Denbigh, Cerrig, Corwen, Clawddnewydd, Bala, Mold all stock midge spray and nets, typically a shorter drive than Chester.
On the machinery noise, I apologise for any disruption caused by the road compacting work. As mentioned prior to your stay, this was a one-off maintenance task to improve access for all guests, and we aimed to keep it as brief as possible. We’re sorry it affected your experience and appreciate your understanding that this isn’t a regular occurrence. Our goal is to maintain the peaceful atmosphere Parc Pen Y Bryn is known for.
We’d also like to clarify that all photos on our Pitchup listing are indeed of the campsite or its immediate surroundings, accurately showcasing the views and setting you enjoyed. We’re sorry to hear the weather added challenges during your stay, but fail to see how as it was glorious sunshine throughout. We always strive to respond promptly.
Thank you again for your visit and feedback—it helps us improve! We’d love to welcome you and your family back to Parc Pen Y Bryn for a more comfortable stay, perhaps with some extra midge-prevention tips and clearer skies. Please don’t hesitate to reach out directly if you’d like to discuss your experience further.
Warm regards,
Rob

Liked The pitches were clearly marked and well kept. Checked in online and was given my pitch number meaning I could just come down the driveway and set up straight away. Driving directions were given via text which made it very easy to find.
Lovely scenery and views, quiet site with a very nice warm shower block.
There was a kettle in the washing up kitchen if you wanted to make an easy brew.
Owners were really pleasant, came to say hello as I was setting up and let me know they were there if I needed anything.

Disliked Only downside is the hardstanding. Broke nearly all our rock pegs as its like just pure concrete

You do need a good quality rock peg for our hard standing pitches. We always keep a stock onsite that a free to use.

Local attractions

Llyn Brenig (15 minutes' drive) is likely to prove popular with experienced fishing fans – the trout here spend their whole life in cold Welsh water, so they're hardier than most and have something of a feisty reputation. There's also bike hire available and six varied lakeside trails to choose from. Betws-y-Coed (25 minutes) is a hub for train fans, who can contentedly chug along on the Conwy Valley narrow-gauge railway. (The mainline station also backs right onto a range of cafés, restaurants and shops, one of which is housed in a converted carriage.) A short walk outside the town are the Swallow Falls, where you can watch the Llugwy foaming over the rugged rocks. Want to use your time in north Wales to delve into the country's industrial past? The fably laid out (and free to enter) National Slate Museum (an hour) will be the one for you. While you're here, make sure to visit Clocaenog Forest (five minutes), where miles of walking and cycling trails are waiting to be explored. Peaceful woodlands, heather moorland, streams, waterfalls and lots of wildlife (including red squirrels, crossbills, black grouse and wild horses) are just some of the things to look out for here
