  • Eco site with wildflower meadows in the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • Crickhowell 15 minutes' drive; Llangorse Lake 20 minutes
  • On a 22-acre property with a woodfired sauna and mountain views
Back to nature is the premise at Cwmffrwd Farm Campsite, an eco-friendly retreat in seriously stunning surroundings. Set in 22 acres of wildflower meadows, the farm is tucked away in the towering mountains of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, and the hosts are serious about maintaining the natural biodiversity of the land. What sets this Powys site apart? Firstly, its remote nature is in stark contrast with busy, populated sites, which helps to keep the land a haven for wildlife and guests alike. To keep everyone (and the flowers) safe, vehicles are not permitted on the wildflower meadows unless it's necessary to reach your pitch. There are two grass car parks instead; kit can be transported to your pitch using the wheelbarrows provided. Secondly, in keeping with the goal of minimising the impact on the land, the amenities are very simple. There are three composting toilets, one washing-up area, a flushing toilet and an electric shower. Guests are asked to arrive prepared with bags to take their rubbish and recycling home. On the farm, data signal is limited, so this is your chance to properly disconnect and spend your time frolicking in the meadows, paddling in the stream or treating yourself to a session in the woodfired sauna. Despite its peaceful location, the farm is only a 15-minute drive from Crickhowell and 25 minutes from the bookish town of Hay-on-Wye or the market town of Brecon.

Lower Meadow unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Isolation.

Disliked the tent pitches have a 5~7 degree pitch/roll. makes doing anything weird and tiresome. Found out later on that the west (downhill) pitches have that problem, not the east (uphill) ones.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review Decio. We're really pleased you enjoyed the space and peace.

How strange that you found you had a slope on your tent pitch? All our upper meadow tent pitches have been professionally levelled and are beautifully flat?
Perhaps you mean the slight slope up the meadows as you walk to your pitch to be rewarded with the beautiful views?

Some of our lower meadow van pitches have a slight incline on them but that's why we recommend van campers bring their levellers. I think you mention in your comment that these are actually the pitches you are referring to?

Best wishes,

Pridie and James

Upper Meadow unpowered grass tent site

Liked Location was stunning

Disliked One toilet, although there were a couple
Of compost toilets
One shower
Unable To park next To the tent, although appreciate reasons for this, it’s something we would always look for, quite a bit of noise from the hay loft,
Just felt the facilities were a little basic from what we are used too at other locations previously. But if you like it basic in a stunning location; this is for you

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review Matthew. We're really pleased you enjoyed the meadows and the mountain view - the flowers are so stunning at this time of year.

Yes, we keep things very simple here - three compost toilets, one flushing toilet and one electric shower. No big facility blocks, club houses or playpark, just acres of space to play in safely as we don't have vehicles drive on the meadows.

The Hayloft is located away from the camping area, in the main farm yard, so on still nights guests chatting at their picnic table and BBQ can be heard when you are in the washroom. We ask all guests to quieten down at half term though, just like in the campsite - peace and quiet is definitely the order of the day!

Simon S.

Upper Meadow unpowered grass tent site

Liked Greeted with warm welcome and everything very clear about site. Pitch itself was perfect for 4 person tent with views which inspired. A beautiful, relaxed and environmentally aware site which is confirmation you don’t need to provide a small village with camping just compost toilets, calm and leave as much natural beauty to complete the stay.
Many thanks it was brilliant

From the manager: Thank you so much for the review Simon! It was really lovely to meet you and we hope to see you again in the future 😊

Buzzard bell tent (three person)

Liked Stylish, comfortable bell tent with a stove and ample firewood for our two nights.

Beautiful site in the heart of the Brecon Dark Sky Reserve and backing onto the famous Dragon’s Back ridge. Breathtaking views in every direction.

Pridie couldn’t do enough for us.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind review Fenella, we hope to see you both again to chat about the stars!

Katie L.

Lower Meadow unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Peaceful and spacious site, easy to find and helpful owner who gave me a great tip on where to watch the sunset. Absolute bargain for the price I paid will definitely be back.

Disliked Only one shower and washing up area, when the site is busier I can see that becoming quite congested. But again for a tenner a night I couldn't complain at all.

From the manager: Lovely to meet you Katie, hope to see you again!

Please note that car satnav systems seem to struggle with the postcode – it's better to use the Google pin or What3Words (firewall.command.zoos). Mobile signal can be intermittent in the area, so it’s best to have your route planned before leaving. When you arrive through the farm gate, please turn immediately up the ramp to your right, and you'll arrive in the grassy parking area. Knock at the farmhouse to let the owners know you've arrived; if there's no answer, call the mobile number on the doorstep.
