  • Welcoming wild camping site in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park
  • Two miles to a trail up Pen y Fan; Four Waterfalls a half-hour drive
  • Meadow pitches with on-site walks; home-cooked meals on Friday night
Ca’s Camping is in pole position for anyone keen to get out and about in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (formerly the Brecon Beacons). Situated on the edge of the mountains, with glorious views right from your tent, this is wild camping in a peaceful, flat meadow on an organic farm with dairy cows, free-range hens and ponies. The dogs get to come on your Welsh adventure too (on leads please), and you can exercise them in the designated 2.5-acre meadow adjoining the camping field, which has a stream running through the middle for family splashings around. A 10-minute walk in woodland takes you to waterfalls on a tributary of the Tarrell River. Pick up barbecue supplies from handy supermarkets in Brecon (10 minutes’ drive, check out the historic cathedral too), where there are also masses of pubs, fish and chip shops and takeaways for those nights when no one wants to cook. If you’re staying on a Saturday night, eat on site at Ca’s Citchen, where the owner cooks a tasty farmhouse supper (with dessert) made from locally sourced produce. Eat outside under the pergola or take your food back to your pitch. Simple site facilities include a toilet and shower block, a washing-up area and rubbish recycling points. An added bonus is the standpipes providing drinking water straight from a spring in the mountains.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Nice quiet site with plenty of room

Disliked Toilets could do with a clean. Better mat outside the shower to stand on when getting dry and only one clothes hook.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked It's a lovely site, perfect location, perfectly quiet, and like minded people seem to use it

Disliked To be honest, a little disappointed with the cleanliness of the facilities this time. I don't think they'd been cleaned for a week. The toilets were soiled as was the shower and sink. Not disastrous but at £25 per pitch per night, I'd expect at least a daily clean.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Large, level field....plenty of space
Good bathroom facilities.

Thoroughly enjoyed Ca's Citchen offer of a Saturday evening meal...and the Sunday Breakfast option 😀

Great to be able to walk into Brecon (approx 45min), take in a Waterfall, or hike up the valley towards Pen Y Fan.

Disliked Personally didn't dislike anything

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The scenery was beautiful, the site was large and you can camp wherever you want, it was mostly level, the grass was cut low. When it wasn't full it was a very tranquil place, usually on weekdays. It had outside washing up facilities for dishes. If you don't care about toilet facilities or safety its a fabulous place to stay.

Disliked Slight confusion about what to do upon arrival, not much owner engagement. No freezer facilities for ice blocks. The toilet facilities were wholly inadequate, 4 very cramped toilets, 2 small showers and 2 small hand basins for the entire site. Toilets frequently ran out of toilet paper and hand basins and shower floors were not cleaned. You sometimes had to que for the toilets. The owner should invest in better facilities instead of more lodges.

No chemical toilet facilities. On the Saturday the site was very full placing a very real strain on the toilet facilities. No site security or adequate monitoring, one evening 2 cars had races up the field and then one car did doughnuts at the end of the field. Very unsafe given you're camping in a tent.

It's a real shame about the facilities and general safety as I would go back for the view.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked Beautiful location with stunning views and we couldn’t stop watching the sky line and the stars on a clear night. lots of space so plenty of space between campsites even during peak times. Gorgeous waterfall within 10 minutes walk. Ca was so helpful and readily available… really appreciate it thank you. Washing facilities and bathroom were well kept and clean and although we didn’t try this time the onsite kitchen is a massive bonus treat.

Disliked The little stream in the dog park wasn’t really accessible but the waterfall was only a ten minute walk which is also good for a fur baby.

Local attractions

The site is actually in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, so lots of hiking and cycling will probably be on the cards. You can start on the trail up Pen y Fan (two miles’ walk from site) for spectacular views over mountain ridges to the horizon. Another classic local yomp leads up to the Four Waterfalls (half an hour’s drive); get more outdoor inspiration from the National Park Visitor Centre (15 minutes). When something less hardcore is required, pedal or stroll along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal (10 minutes); otherwise there’s a golf course within five minutes’ drive and an indoor pool at Brecon Leisure Centre (10 minutes) – a handy diversion for any rainy days. Younger kids will doubtless love meeting all the cuddly animals at Cantref Adventure Farm, while teens can hone their off-roading skills at BattleMX (both 15 minutes). The National Showcaves Centre for Wales (25 minutes) is another great option for family days out, with its subterranean tours, dinosaur walks and recreated Iron Age village.
