  • Small, friendly family-run Ceredigion site two miles from Aberaeron
  • A 10-minute drive to New Quay; walk to the Ceredigion Coast Path
  • Sea views and stunning sunsets on site; dogs and kids welcome
Sea views, stunning sunsets, stacks of space and a splendidly relaxed vibe… what more could you want from a Ceredigion campsite? (If the answer’s ‘somewhere we can take the dogs and kids’, then you’ll be pleased to hear they’re both most welcome here.) Garth View is a place that’s got all of the above – this small family-run site looks out over a lovely valley with the sea in the distance, and it prides itself on offering a warm Welsh welcome to its guests. It’s a no-fuss setup here, favouring simple pleasures over lots of facilities, but it's possible to hire firepits and freeze ice packs and you'll have access to a converted container that houses two bathrooms (including hot-water showers, sinks and toilets), as well as two single toilets and separate washing area. The location here is a real winner too: Garth View is easily accessed from the A487, and it’s within walking distance of the Ceredigion Coast Path and the harbour town of Aberaeron (about two miles away), which has plenty of places to eat. A 200-year-old pub which is dog-friendly and serves homecooked food is a 10-minute walk away and a farm shop, bistro, play barn and event venue is a 20-minute walk away. If you'd rather self cater, a couple of convenience stores are about five minutes’ walk away. The local launderette is a 10-minute walk away. Lots of the best-loved spots along the West Wales coast are within easy reach for days out: it’s a 10-minute drive to New Quay for wildlife-spotting boat trips or half an hour to Cardigan, a hub for watersports and other outdoorsy activities. The beaches of Llangrannog and Tresaith are about 20 minutes away, or you can venture a little further to Aberporth (25 minutes) or Mwnt (35 minutes). For a bigger town, head north to Aberystwyth in just over half an hour.

Unpowered grass site

Liked: Everything, the site is very well presented with loads of space on each pitch individually mowed. The location and view are perfect if you’re after sea views and outstanding countryside. The facilities were brilliant, very clean, very modern with outstanding water pressure in the shower. The owner was very helpful and quick to respond to messages and very helpful. We had a fantastic couple of days and would happily stay here again in the future.

Disliked: Not staying for longer

Irma camping pod

Liked: Small site with clean showers etc., friendly host, great location. Moody cow restaurant down the road is worth a visit as was the Moody Calf soft play (a godsend in the rain!).

Disliked: Bed was uncomfortable, when the other person moves - you move (a lot), that type of thing!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank for taking the time to write a review and I am very happy to hear you enjoyed most of your experience at Garth View but I am also so very sorry to hear that the bed wasn't comfortable. I understand the importance of a good night's sleep and I apologise for falling short in this area. This is the first I have come to hear of the issue as our previous customers have commented on how comfortable the mattress is but I will certainly review this and take steps to ensure that our guests have a comfortable and restful stay. I would like to offer you a 10% discount during your next stay if you are in the local area again. Thank you again for providing me with the opportunity to improving our services based on your feedback. Best Giovanna

Unpowered grass site

Liked: Each pitch was mown separately to make it personal and private. New shower and toilet block was amazing - not a keen camper but this made it for me. Beautiful views and well placed to have adventures along the stunning Welsh coast. Plenty to do (swimming pool, soft play, beaches, cafes, fish and chips!) Giovanna could not have been more accommodating - always there at the drop of a hat and helpful, friendly and positive. The hire of a fire-pit on the last night (after days of rain) was the perfect end to the trip. Highly recommend (4 adults and 7 children under ten.)

Disliked: The rain!!

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time out to leave such a lovely review and thank you sincerely for the lovely chocolates too, so nice of you all! I am really happy to hear you had a good time at Garth View despite the weather!! I hope to welcome you again. Best Giovanna

There are two entrances. If travelling north, the first entrance to the main house (Garthwynnog) is on the right on a sharp bend, next door to a bed & breakfast (Merwerydd). The second entrance is 100 yards further up on the right, taking you into the field entrance which is directly opposite Deicin Stud (look for a milk stand at the top of their entrance). If travelling south, look for the entrances on the left instead.

Local attractions

There are heaps of beaches around here to keep you busy for days on end, but you’ll also have plenty of choice if you want to mix things up a bit. You could start with a trip to the John Nash-designed villa and extensive estate at Llanerchaeron (10 minutes’ drive) or a stroll along the pretty trails of Cae Hir Gardens (20 minutes). For a wilder time, head to Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest (45 minutes) for walks and red kite feeding or head to Devil’s Bridge Falls (45 minutes) to see water cascading into a deep gorge. You can also get there with a ride on the Vale of Rheidol Railway (half an hour). Damp days? Meet local creatures at Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre (10 minutes), surround yourselves with engines of all sorts at the Internal Fire Museum of Power (20 minutes) or take a trip underground at Silver Mountain Experience (50 minutes).
