  • Peaceful park next to the River Forth, two miles from Aberfoyle
  • In Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, a half-hour drive from Stirling
  • Well-kept pitches with direct access to Loch Ard Forest; dogs welcome
If you’re setting off for Stirlingshire with your eye on finding lots of alfresco activities, you should certainly consider Cobleland Campsite as a base. A couple of miles south of Aberfoyle, this peaceful park is in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, just on the edge of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. That setting means miles and miles of walking and cycling trails stretch out through the surrounding area, with fishing and golf close by too – and watersports, treetop trails, cliff jumping and the like for more intrepid guests. And in fact you don't have to travel far to get started on soaking up the spectacular scenery – you can simply stick around on site, where oak trees tower over the pitches and there’s a backdrop of pretty forest views with the River Forth running along one side of the site. Just beyond the river are paths taking you straight out into Loch Ard Forest for a woodland wander or a dog walk if you’ve brought your pet with you. The pitches at Cobleland are well tended and spacious, with access to all the essential amenities including a launderette, a washing-up area and chemical disposal as well as bathrooms with toilets, showers and disabled facilities. Aberfoyle (five minutes’ drive) has a small supermarket for supplies, plus several places to eat and drink.

What customers say

A lovely, well-kept spot by the river and woods. Guests rave about friendly staff, spotless facilities, and a great location for walks/bikes. Handy shop & food vans too. Pitches are private and level. Mostly great, with a few minor points; people want to come back!

Meadow powered grass site

Liked The campsite had lots of lovely walks, a river nearby and felt safe. I loved the lighting around the campsite at night. It’s about a 30 min walk into Aberfoyle. The toilets were clean.

Disliked We paid £32 for 1 night with EHU. There was no wifi included in the campsite. The toilet block was quite far away from the van and the road leading to it was covered in pot holes. We also booked a grass pitch but when we arrived the grass was waterlogged. We asked at reception if there was any gravel pitches available or alternatives and were told no, and given some mats to help prevent the mud. The owner/ manager (I assume) then scalded us for parking on the grass. He told us we had ruined the grass and that he was trying to keep people off it and “didn’t know how we managed to book a grass pitch because he had blocked them all off the website”. I can understand his frustration but this was not our fault. It was also quite embarrassing as others in their vans observed the interaction. Meanwhile myself, my van and my tyres were filthy which was a total inconvenience to us too. I did remind him that we had asked to move before parking up but reception declined this. We were then moved to a gravel late arrivals pitch. Had we not drove just over an hour to visit, we would had left as it ruined our trip. Sadly the first impression and management would prevent us returning.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

I’m very sorry to hear that your visit did not meet expectations. The recent wet weather unfortunately left some of our grass pitches waterlogged, and while we had tried to close these, it appears that one was still available to book through a third-party site. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and we are reviewing this to ensure it cannot happen again.

I’m also sorry that the interaction you experienced felt uncomfortable. That is certainly not the impression we want any of our guests to leave with. Your comments have been noted and will be discussed with the team so we can handle situations like this more carefully in future.

When the issue was raised we moved you to a gravel late-arrival pitch to ensure you had a usable space for the night, but I regret that the situation had already affected your stay and first impression of the site.

We value all guest feedback as it helps us improve, and we appreciate you highlighting the points about pitch conditions and communication with our team.

We wish you well with your future travels.

Powered concrete slab site (woodland)

Liked Utterly charming site. Its situation bordered by a stone bridge, river and forest is a campers dream. Pitches on meadow are all flat, both gravel and grass. Tiered pitch levels from the gently uphill track into the trees. A pitch for all tastes.
Within a 100 yards or so of a sealed-surface path(old railway line) into Aberfolye village, just over a mile, flat, each way.
Also the site has a track, (muddy in February, so bring suitable footwear) into the forest and accesses both fire roads and a riverside walk through the trees.
Helpful and friendly staff, small on site shop, stocking essentials.
Showers and toilets kept clean and warm, even in February, very well presented, older buildings.
All in all, captivating site, beautiful location, well run by staff who clearly enjoy what they do. Will undoubtedly return.

Disliked My only gripe, a small one, is that the hand drier in the gents was set to about 3 second puffs of air, so drying of hands was a bit laborious; I did say it was a small gripe!

Meadow powered grass and gravel site

Liked Great site. Very quiet and relaxed. Staff were very welcoming. Walks near by and a small shop on site. Great facilities

Disliked Difficulties getting pegs into the grass due to stones underneath. Heavy rain caused site to become boggy in areas.

Unpowered concrete slab site (woodland)

Liked Spacious pitches, plenty of privacy. Clean and modern loos and showers. Water points plentiful around the site and bin area easy and accessible. Oliver, the owner was very friendly and welcoming. He let me choose my pitch, it was low season when I stayed. Enjoyed the owls at night, two red squirrels, very exciting and fabulous walks on the doorstep.
