  • Off-grid glamping site in secluded Somerset countryside near Yeovil
  • A 40-minutes drive to the Cerne Giant, and Glastonbury half an hour
  • Gas stoves and hot tubs on site; pub and shop within 10 minutes’ drive
Exclusive in location and yet hugely inclusive in style, Dorothy Goes Glamping is tucked away in secluded countryside near Yeovil in Somerset. With a remit to be welcoming to guests of all persuasions, the secluded woodland pitches offer an off-grid, eco-friendly break and the chance to disconnect from technology. Hen parties, stag weekends, couples on loved-up date nights – all are welcome here (along with their dogs, of course). Accommodation is in a range of glamping pods, with luxurious extras including hot tubs (book in advance; extra charges apply) heated by woodfired burners, proper beds and a vintage trunk for storing your stuff away. A welcome hamper contains cutlery, crockery and mugs as well as washing-up utensils. Separate shower and toilets blocks are steps away from the pods – but remember to pack a torch as there’s no light after dark. Thanks to that lack of light, you can take in the starry sky and you might also get to see deer and badgers flitting around after dark. How to keep fed and watered? Outside each lodging is a barbecue (wood and coal can be bought on site if needed) and picnic bench for cosy nights around the firepit, plus a two-burner gas stove for outdoor cooking and dining. Pick up basics at the handy shop in Queen Camel (10 minutes’ drive) for mealtimes, or head to the pub in Sparkford (five minutes) instead.

Local attractions

The cool galleries and indie shops of Bruton (20 minutes’ drive) are worth a morning’s snoop, while mellow-stone Castle Cary (10 minutes) has a great Tuesday food market. Yeovil is the spot for a big night out in pubs, and Glastonbury (both half an hour) turns up shops selling joss sticks and jewellery, as well as the atmospheric abbey. Exploring around the site takes you to the crumbling, hilltop Cadbury Castle (10 minutes) for spectacular views over Somerset. More hiking trails lead to the colossal, chalk Cerne Giant (40 minutes) sprawled across a hillside and off uncertain heritage. The Wessex Ridgeway (45 minutes) also passes a multitude of neolithic and Iron Age monuments that are free to explore on your hiking adventures. Closer to home and coming up to date, the Haynes International Motor Museum (five minutes) has a nostalgic mix of vintage Bentleys, F1 cars and bikes, while virtual-reality flights in an iconic Concorde and a collection of World War II fighter planes make the Fleet Air Arm Museum (10 minutes) a must-see too.

Liked EVERYTHING This place is incredible. From when we were met by Daryl the owner before he left to return to London and left us in the capable hands of his awesome Warden team.
It is totally off grid, we travelled with a 15 and a 3 year old and we had the best time, we stayed for 1 night for a trip to Longleat and wished we had longer.
The Yurt was so beautiful and comfortable, it literally has everything you need to sleep, cook, have a fire and be in nature.
We couldnt have asked for more, the Warden (sorry forgot her name) was amazing with the 3 year old, loaned him walkie talkies to play in the woods and gave him marshmallows for the fire.
This place is a true hidden gem, as a family we would 100% return and thank them for a wonderful stay

Good washing and toilet facilities, clean and with running hot water.

Bell tent

Liked 5 stars for customer service. We thought Zara was fabulous (and her husband)! I could not fault her customer service. Nothing was any trouble! Very genuine! She went above and beyond with little things the kids adored. They thought the whole experience was great! Thank you Zara. 😊

Disliked OK so i do think few bits need updating around the site.

Plus it was a rainy few days. The bell tent did feel a bit damp inside (bedding etc). I think on bright sunny summer warmer days it would have been fine.

Excellent! Cannot thank you enough for a wonderful experience.

Liked Absolutely everything! This place is so well thought out, incredibly well executed and extremely well run.
We could not have been more welcomed and the little extra touches (lights, carvings etc) just make it beautiful.

Disliked Not a dislike but more shower/toilet cubicles are needed.
