Treacle Valley Campsite

View down the valley towards Dartmoor
Surrounded by devon countryside.
Amazing sunset views
Tranquil countryside on edge of torquay. a short hop to the sea.

  • Relaxed and spacious site with views towards Dartmoor
  • Within easy reach of Torbay's beaches and Dartmoor National Park
  • Paignton Zoo, aquarium, seaside towns and more a short drive away
For a sweet-as break on a working farm, head to family-friendly Treacle Valley Campsite in the tiny village of Daccombe, between Dartmoor National Park to the west and more than 20 English Riviera beaches towards the east. This is a top spot for all ages: kids will be kept occupied at the play area or on all the wide open space around the accommodation area, and walks to the village through the surrounding countryside start right from the pitches. Treacle Valley's café/shop stocks all the basics you might need while you're on your hols, and provides a handy and free freezer block service in case you want to pack up a hamper with bubbly (possibly accompanied by a few sandwiches) and head out for the day. When you get hungry you're more than welcome to fire up the barbie or cook up something tasty over your campfire – for anything more substantial, head into one of the nearby seaside towns for supermarkets, seafood restaurants, fish and chip takeaways and posh pub grub. The nearest pub is a 20-minute walk away.

What customers say

Great campsite with stunning views & chilled vibe. Clean facilities, super staff, flexible arrival/departures. Spacious pitches, though a bit hilly. Fires popular! Handy shop. Occasional farm smells/noise from others.

Disliked Having toured campsites across England for five years, I thought I had seen it all, but this place deserves its own disaster documentary. I am all for people having a good time I certainly do not expect lights-out at 10:00 PM, and a bit of late-night music is fine. However, what unfolded here was a masterclass in sheer incivility (rudeness or impolite behaviour) and complete anarchy.

At midnight, the grand finale of our nightmare arrived: two cars loaded with two families who decided that 12:00 AM was the ideal time for full-volume family therapy. For three straight hours, they screeched at each other, slammed doors like they were testing vehicle crash safety, and let their offspring howl freely. To complete the ambiance, a young chap looking like he was auditioning for a low-budget zombie film and clearly under the influence stumbled out of a tent, bellowing inarticulated (unclear or unintelligible) noises while passionately kicking empty beer cans across the gravel. The entire field turned into a live-action crossover of Shameless and The Purge, with desperate campers shouting "Shut the fuck up" into the abyss.

In a desperate bid for survival, we texted the owners to let them know we felt genuinely threatened and asked if someone could intervene. Naturally, we received radio silence apparently, customer support goes to sleep even if nobody else can.

I am no saint and I have survived some wild nights, but this level of patologia was breathtaking. They really ought to rebrand as a "Lawless Wasteland Campsite" bring your own hazmat suit, anything goes.

From the manager: Hello,
We take all reviews seriously but may I say first of all that, despite the damning report, I really enjoyed your excellent literary description. Probably better than Ai could manage.

With regards your complaints we are really sorry it became an ordeal here. All we want and work for is for campers to have a nice stay.

We do respond to campers concerns overnight but I have no record of you sending me a text about the troubles that evening. Sorry for not trying to solve the problems.

Unfortunately we had some very difficult guests for those few days and we have had a run of bad reviews simply for them. They left the toilet block in a terrible state whenever they used it and despite our efforts we simply couldn’t keep their behaviour from affecting our other guests stay.

Our job is to ask troublesome guests to leave but if I read your review correctly it essentially says some people talked/argued into the night and closed car doors too loudly. Also someone kicked a can. Although it disrupted everyone’s stay it’s not really across the kicking out threshold. When these guests left they dumped their tents and threw everything in the hedge. They just simply didn’t care.

We are really sorry it ruined your camp.

Liked Staff are friendly and nice. I always want to be able to have a log fire which they cater for. Big open fields so plenty of places to pitch up and great views if you like nature!

Disliked Steep roads getting to and from the farm but we managed to drive up it!

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Still waiting a response to their email offering a postponement or cancellation. I opted for a cancellation but no response to my emails!

Disliked Why send out an email offering a postponement or cancellation and then not respond to not one but two emails following up?😡 Poor Customer Service. Very poor 😡

Unpowered grass tent site (large)

Liked The owners are great but difficult to contact , showers and toilets were clean .

Disliked •The noise and loud music into the evening
•motorbike racing up and down the fields (couldn't allow children to play safley incase they were run over )
•fires even in a fire ban
•Fight for flat land so when you find a nice little area everyone seems to camp on top of each other no camping etiquette . (Had a tent so close the guide ropes were crossing .)
•no answer at reception when needing assistance in the day .

Local attractions

For stuff to do nearby, try a visit to the historic village of Cockington, three miles away, where there's a manor house and a cricket ground plus some 16th-century thatched stone cottages and a traditional pub serving cream teas. The award-winning caves of Kents Cavern – once home to prehistoric humans – are also within easy reach of Treacle Valley; this subterranean network lies close to some spectacularly scenic coastal areas with several walking routes along Torbay's UNESCO Global Geopark – one of only seven in the UK. A walk around Babbacombe coves and cliffs begins at Anstey's Cove (opposite Kents Cavern), to wind its way along a scenic track and bring you out into the pretty village of Babbacombe in Torquay; take a ride on the famed Babbacombe Cliff Railway, then follow up with a wander around four acres of award-winning gardens showcasing hundreds of model scenes and railways at Babbacombe Model Village. Take the kids on an animal adventure at Paignton Zoo (20 minutes) or visit the seaside towns of Torquay (15 minutes), Paignton (20 minutes), Brixham (half an hour), Shaldon (15 minutes) or Teignmouth (20 minutes) for miniature golf, arcades, ice cream shops and beaches.
