  • Camping pitches with Widemouth Bay views in Cornwall
  • A five-minute drive from Bude; half an hour from Tintagel
  • Pub, shop, restaurant and surf hire all a couple of minutes' walk away
Ever dreamed of waking up to a sea view? Or perhaps stoking the flames of a campfire as the sun sets over the waves? Sign up for a bit of both with a stay at Sandparks Campsite, a friendly, informal site with pitches overlooking Widemouth beach in north Cornwall. Those in the know will no doubt recognise this name as being one of Cornwall’s top surfing beaches – and as well as viewing it from your pitch you can also get down there to hit the waves whenever you fancy from here. And it’s not just the beach that’s handy: a pub (with top-notch Cornish ales), a restaurant (with fresh seafood) and a shop (with local meat and fish for your barbecue) are all a mere 50 metres away from the site. There’s also surfing kit hire available for those who don’t have their own board. If you fancy exploring a little further afield, it’s worth noting that this is a fine spot for getting out to walk on the South West Coast Path or to spend some time roaming around north Cornwall. Bude is about a 40-minute walk or five-minute drive away and you can get to the likes of Boscastle, Tintagel and Bodmin Moor within half an hour’s drive. Life on site is pretty simple, but guests have access to a waste disposal point, a washing-up area and a modern toilet and shower block. Barbecues and campfires are both permitted at this laidback spot, as are visiting dogs.

Liked Fantastic location 5 minutes walk to Widemouth bay beach, which makes carrying my surfboard down to beach a breeze. Toilet and shower facilities are outstanding, like the idea of separate showers for changing out of wetsuit and to wash surfboard off. There are a couple of places very close by for a beer/food if needed plus an onsite food van. All in all couldn't of enjoyed my stay more.

Liked Ideal location for surfing or other beach activities - it’s a literally 5 mins walk from a huge wide beach with RNLI cover.

Great toilet and shower facilities - clean, modern, and with limitless free hot water. Separate area for washing off wetsuits or if generally sandy.

Good washing-up area plus communal fridge, 2 x freezers, and a ‘freebie area’ where you can donate or pick up unwanted bits and pieces from other campers. Always fun to see what’s available and to pass some things onto others.

There is a relaxed feel to campsite with no marked pitches - you just go where you like. Also possible to have fires & BBQs (wood sold on site).

Burger/snack van available at times.

Free WiFi on site (but not especially strong signal)

Efficient wardens Gary and Sue live on site and regularly patrol around on their gold buggy. They kindly let everyone know when high winds were forecast to give us best chance of survival. They even kindly lent an alternative tent to someone whose tent was just too flimsy for the poor conditions.

Disliked There is not much shelter on the site - it is basically one big field with no hedges or otherwise to break it up, so worth noting that it can be quite windy as it is fairly exposed. Also note that the site is a bit sloping in most areas.

This is a fairly large site and the number of showers and toilets seemed fine in early September when site was fairly quiet but suspect there wouldn’t be enough when site is full.

Other inconsiderate campers leaving bits of litter around and leaving washing up sinks in an unpleasant state. (However these were always cleaned every morning by the site).

Liked Clean and modern facilities – showers are warm, well-ventilated, and always stocked with loo roll. Pitches are generous with electric hook-ups, and the owners are friendly, helpful, and visible around the site. Extras like fridges, freezers, and outdoor showers make beach life easier, while the sea views and sunsets are simply spectacular. The location is spot-on, with Widemouth Beach on the doorstep, two pubs, a beach café, and Vic’s food van for morning coffee or evening burgers.

Disliked Not really a did like but It can be windy (you’re camping right by the sea, after all), but secure pitching and a good campfire soon sort that out

Local attractions

Widemouth isn’t the only bit of coastal Cornwall that’s easy to visit from here. Sandparks is also in a handy spot for outings to Bude (five minutes’ drive), where another top surf beach beckons, along with surf lessons and a sea pool for more gentle swims. Elsewhere along the coast, you could stop by in Boscastle (20 minutes) for a stroll around a traditional fishing village, or explore Arthurian legends at Tintagel Castle (half an hour) – perhaps also stopping by at the mystical St Nectan’s Glen (25 minutes) to see if you can spot pixies as you walk to the waterfall. Turning inland for a while, there are some great walks to be done on Bodmin Moor (25 minutes), or you could delve into the area’s history at Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum (15 minutes). Other options for entertaining the kids might be the animals at New Mills Farm Park, the puzzle-themed attractions at Hidden Valley or the characterful residents of The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden – all are about a half-hour drive away.
