  • Friendly site in a small field five minutes' drive from Marazion
  • At an equestrian centre half an hour's walk from Perranuthnoe beach
  • Butterfly farm and café on site; village pubs within 15 minutes’ walk
A trip to the Cornwall coast, you say? With St Hilary Campsite as your base, you’ll be set to stroll along to the local sands in about half an hour. On top of that, five minutes in the car will land you in Marazion, where the beach has sensational views of the island-bound medieval castle St Michael’s Mount (crossing the causeway at low tide or taking a boat at high tide will help you see it up close and personal). Sandy beaches are a common sight in this part of the country; many more are a short drive away, including Sennen Cove (about half an hour's drive), just above Land’s End. Excellent pubs, too; two (both with outdoor seating) are 15 minutes’ walk away in the village of Goldsithney, alongside tea rooms. Your morning coffee can be sourced directly on site, though, as there’s a modern café for hot drinks and snacks (plus cakes, pizzas and sandwiches later in the day). Also on site is something a bit more unusual: Guy's Butterfly House, home to species from across Africa, Asia and South America. Keep your eye out for Cornwall’s very own butterflies within the small field you’re staying in. St Hilary Campsite is a friendly site based on an equestrian centre in the small parish of St Hilary and has a range of helpful amenities for guests to use, from flushing toilets to a washing-up area with hot and cold water.

Local attractions

As local spots go, Marazion beach (five minutes’ drive) is a pretty spectacular one; either take the short drive or head on a longer jaunt along the coastal path from Perranuthnoe beach and back. Once you’ve had enough time to lie back peacefully on Marazion's soft sands, you might want to think about exploring the rockpools near Chapel Rock, walking across to historic St Michael’s Mount at low tide – boats can be taken at high tide – or signing up for a windsurfing lesson should the winds be in your favour. When you’re ready to part with Marazion and its dreamy view, make your way to Sennen Cove (half an hour) and Land's End (35 minutes), which are close together. You could begin at Land’s End, Britain’s most southwesterly point, gazing at its sheer granite cliffs – popular with Cornish chough – or trying the indoor attractions like adventure golf and 4D films. Afterwards, unwind at Sennen Cove, where the surfers among you may want to have a go at the waves rolling in. For some activities that don’t involve beaches, head to Godolphin (10 minutes), an ancient estate owned by the National Trust, or drive up to the art galleries in St Ives (25 minutes).
