  • Dog-friendly cherry orchard site in the peaceful Kent Downs
  • In a National Landscape, 25 minutes’ drive to Whitstable
  • Barbecues and campfires allowed; pub within two minutes’ walk
Plant yourself firmly in the cherry orchard at Painters Farm Campsite beside the village of Painters Forstal in Kent, where cherries aren’t the only thing blossoming. Previously owned by the same hands for over 50 years, the new owners have injected a new lease of life into this family-friendly and dog-friendly two-acre site… welcomed by barns adorned with fairy lights and the sweet shade from cherry trees, you’ll be well-situated to take in everything from chalk cliffs to wistful woodlands in the surrounding sloping Kent Downs National Landscape. Plus, go from grassy pitches into luscious sands, as the coastal town of Whitstable is within 25 minutes’ drive. Here, you can sample sunsets while eating oysters or head out to sea on a sailboat if you wish. The local area is certainly awash with things to do. Perhaps settle for a pint of local ale or a meal in the nearby Kentish pub, within two minutes’ stroll. You could head into Faversham (just a five minutes’ drive) for ice cream shops, cafés and pubs set in what was once a busy port in 17th-century England (famed for its wool trade). Here, walk its cutesy medieval street (one of the oldest in the country) or stock up on supplies from its supermarket within five minutes’ drive, ready for a light barbecue or campfire back on site. If you’re thirsty from the day’s jaunts, there’s also the country’s oldest family-owned brewery within 10 minutes’ drive and a large food hall with naturally scrumptious farm foods within the same distance.

What customers say

Awesome staff, guests keep coming back! Clean facilities, lovely orchard, and a top pub nearby. Showers could be better, and a bit of road noise, but heaps of people love it.

Liked Where do I even begin?!

I arrived at Painters Farm Campsite expecting a peaceful little camping trip and left feeling like I’d accidentally joined a wholesome countryside cult and honestly, I’m ready to go back.

The place has that magical combination of fresh air, countryside charm, and the constant possibility that something mildly ridiculous is about to happen. Birds chirping, tents flapping, people attempting to cook sausages in increasingly questionable ways… absolute scenes.

The campsite itself was brilliant, the atmosphere was relaxed, and everything had that lovely "escape from real life" feeling. You know you’re having a proper break when checking your phone starts to feel like an administrative task.

Highlights included:

Pretending I know how to camp.
Becoming emotionally invested in the success of the campfire.
Eating approximately 400% more food than is medically necessary.
Being surrounded by countryside and immediately acting like I’d never seen grass before.
Constantly checking the weather with the confidence of a professional meteorologist.
Enjoying the kind of random campsite conversations you simply cannot have anywhere else.

Painters Farm Campsite delivered exactly what a campsite should: peace, fresh air, a bit of chaos, plenty of laughs, and the opportunity to return home smelling faintly of smoke and questioning why normal life involves so many walls.

Would I stay again? Absolutely.

Would I recommend it? Without hesitation.

Would I pack more snacks next time? This is not a question. YES.

A cracking stay at Painters Farm Campsite. Bring your tent, bring your sense of humour, and for the love of all things outdoorsy, remember where you put the tent pegs.

Liked Campsite in general, games area, toilet block/facilities, staff.

Disliked This was our second visit and felt busier than before I know this can’t be helped in the summer months but some campers were on the noisy side and I think 4 pitches or so less would have been a better experience. Picnic benches a bonus!

Liked Small intimate site good facilities. No particular rules about where to pitch. All cars parked in adjacent field, ditto dog walking. Nice local pub just up the lane. Plenty of walks around site in local fields and fruit orchards. Near Faversham interesting historical town and Whitstable for a coastal jaunt.

Disliked This site hired out fire pits, which is usually a welcome facility. But our visit was at the height of the heatwave when there had been many wildfires around the country. Other sites had put a ban on these. But this site was still hiring out fire pits and logs etc. and providing bricks to stand disposable bbq’s on and bins to dispose of the contents of used bbq’s. The weekend we were there the government sent out a message to everyone’s mobile phone about the risks and banning the use Of these things. But there were fire pits which continued to be hired out and used on this campsite. It also make the campsite very smoky as it is in a bit of a valley.

Liked Perfect for us. Lovely quiet site in Kent countryside. Spotlessly clean toilets and showers and washing up area. Shop stocks basics. Friendly and helpful owners and staff. Ideal location to visit East and South Kent. We visited Folkestone, The Isle of Sheppey (not picturesque!) and nearby market town of Faversham. Canterbury and Whitstable are really close. Or stay and relax under the site’s cherry trees. And wander over to the village pub. We will be back.

Liked Stay - 8/8/2026 - 15/8/2026
LOVED this Campsite. 🏕️
The whole camp is so pretty, with Trees dotted everywhere so you could camp under cover from the hot heat ☀️.
The showers were good, the washing facilities were good. They have a kitchen where you can store frozen food and ice packs etc. 👍
It was very busy, but not loud at all.
There is also a little shop on site where you can buy Milk, Bread and Eggs etc.
All the people we spoke to were lovely, and we spoke to a French Couple with their children who had travelled from Brittany.
So much to see and do. We visited Margate, the White Cliffs of Dover, Deal, a lovely little village called Sandwich 🥪 plus other places.
It was a truly lovely place to stay.
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Liked Location, clean bathrooms and the hosts.

Disliked Too pricey for a cramped and crowded campsite.

Doesn’t allow parking cars next to the pitches - people do like the option to sleep in their cars with AC during this hot summer.

Only two shower stalls for the number of pitches on the site.

Nothing much to do locally.

Noise from the motorway is very noticeable during the night.

Local attractions

Canterbury (20 minutes’ drive) is calling…the town is riddled with UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Canterbury Cathedral, St Augustine’s Abbey and the Church of St Martin. Pick out cute eateries or shops as a resting point as you work your way around its well-documented history. If the olden times excite your mind, Belmont House and Gardens (five minutes) are nearby, with a marvellous walled garden and traditional tea room. There are more bountiful gardens (and righteous insides) at Leeds Castle (25 minutes). Balance your outings with wildlife and a visit to the safari-style The Big Cat Sanctuary (35 minutes). Or perhaps look towards the red pandas and bears lurking at Wingham Wildlife Park (half an hour). Nature also runs fairly wild in the ancient woodlands at Blean Woods National Nature Reserve (half an hour). If you’re in search of more coastal towns, you won't have to look too far. Follow the coast past Herne Bay (25 minutes and a good stop for jet skiing, windsurfing and other watersports) and into the trendy town of Margate (40 minutes) for fish and chips stalls and seaside rides.
