  • Lakeside camping 10 minutes’ drive from Deal in Kent countryside
  • Sandwich Bay 15 minutes’ drive; Howletts Wild Animal Park 25 minutes
  • Fishing lakes, dog walks and a waterside café; pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Set in the Kent countryside, Cottington Lakes offers a peaceful lakeside camping experience, just the job for anglers, nature lovers, families and dog owners – and pretty much everyone really. Whether you’re here for early-morning fishing, lazy afternoons in nature or quiet evenings under the stars, this is a great spot to unwind and fall in love with being outdoors. Spacious grass pitches are set around eight fishing lakes, and campers have access to on-site toilet and shower facilities for added comfort. When you’re ready for a bite to eat or a hot drink, Cottington Lakes Café is just a couple of minutes’ walk away, serving tasty meals, light snacks and refreshments alongside views over the water. There’s a small shop covering all the basics, and the site is also close to historic Deal and the medieval Cinque Port of Sandwich (both 10 minutes’ drive) if you need bigger shops or fancy meals out in pubs and restaurants.

South field unpowered grass site

Liked Only stayed one night but a lovely, peaceful campsite in a nice spot. Close to Deal which is worth a look around. Secure barrier system in operation which locks at 7pm. Great if you are also going to fish.

Disliked At the time of our visit we were told the sink hadn't been fit for the pot wash yet and was directed to the cold water tap. I think fishing is the main priority here with camping as a secondary business. Two toilets maybe not enough for a full campsite when also shared with people who are fishing.

Site facilities where ok for me as a disabled user. Staff amazing

Liked Wow what I place to stay
I was a solo disabled traveller.
The staff amazing, they helped put my awning up and down everyday and always checked to see if I needed anything.
Breakfast on site OMG I was a chef for many years and best breakfast for taste and value I've had in a long time.

North field powered concrete and grass site

Liked The location is great - an easy walk to the seafront and lots of cycle routes, especially along the coastal path into Walmer and all the way to Dover.

Very clean toilets and 1 hot shower per gender.

Large pitches.

Very reasonably priced.

Disliked Discrepancy between information on Pitchup and the information on the sites website (IE - Check-in is between 12-3pm and not between 3-7pm as specified by Pitchup).
No information regarding use of facilities or surrounding area at check-in. We had to call a phone number as reception was closed at 3.30pm when we arrived. Told the access code then left to our own devices.
People booking on the website choose a pitch, but booking via Pitchup is random. Therefore, people pitch up on pitches already reserved, without knowing, and it causes unintentional hostility amongst campers.

The hard standing is NOT hard standing, it's just hard soil and grass.

It's not a campsite, it's a fishing business with room to park a van/caravan or pitch a tent.

There's no grey waste area. People used the chemical loo point.

There's one fresh water tap with no drain underneath.

There's nowhere to wash dishes.

There's a youth project positioned on the site with kids wandering around/playing football around the Motorhomes. We were hit by a rugby ball twice. This also seemed to be a safeguarding issue to us. Kids were unsupervised some of the time.

Campers CANNOT walk around the lakes, unless fishing. You can't see the lakes from the camping field.

Little phone signal and no wifi

a very clean site friendly staff and very secure will be back again
